that’s really bad luck gordon glad you’ve worked a solution out those drawn out insurance repatriations often result in a vandalised veh best wishes mate

Really sorry to read this Gordon. Great that everything seems to have gone smoothly, but small consolation I’m sure. After breaking down around Cologne 18 months ago I feel your pain. We were lucky that the garage could fix the issue which let us continue our trip. Have to say we lost confidence in the reliability of the van after that and sold it 6 months later.

Injector failed and turbo suspect piston holed 55k on clock
Really sorry to here this Gordon, hope you soon get her back on the road, we flew home for a few days and got back to Albir on Thursday and the weather has turned awful, strong winds and heavy rain, not looking good for the next few days either. Are you having the motorhome repatriated back to the UK or getting it sorted in France.

I was really really shocked to read your post Gordon. As Eric said, you have done incredibly well to organise a secure transit home for your beautiful van, and be home in time to receive it on Monday.

You can be proud of yourself for your brilliant organisational skills. Well done you!

Really sorry to hear your news Gordon, after the experience we had last year we know how you feel. Even your reference to injectors made me shiver.
You both deserve this break and it’s just not fair, but, on the other hand you are both safe and unharmed, and that in itself is something to be grateful for. Hopefully, you’ll soon pick yourselves back up, dust yourselves off, and come out fighting.
Love to you both, and safe journey home.

Everyone will want to know why they were going to take so long to do what you did in , what , a couple of days ?

it's about 1200 miles round trip what insurance do is sub it out as a back load to some one that is delivering out there as it is not cost effective to send a truck out there empty just for the return load which would take about 4 days £1350 for fuel plus wages plus ferries. And as Gordon as been in the transport business for a little while he know who to get hold of, Well done Gordon

Fair enough for a transport company to , obviously, be looking at cost effectiveness . Surely not relevant when it comes to the insurance company ? They are contracted to provide a service to the customer. They should just have to swallow it .

That's really bad Gordon, which insurance company do you use for breakdown so the rest of us can avoid giving them our business in the future if they don't treat you fairly and cover the cost occured by you.

I don't know how I would go on with my insurance as they say you can only leave your vehicle unattended for 48 hours, so wouldn't bode well to leave it beyond that time.

I rely on my Nationwide flex plus account that uses the AA in the UK for breakdowns and it covers Europe too, only had to use them once to replace a puncture in Spain.

Be interesting to know if anyone has used the Nationwide flex plus account to repatriate there motorhome back to the UK, since AA were awarded the contract. My motorhome is actually insured with Comfort and I believe they do a breakdown policy for an additional fee, which I have always declined. Good luck Gordon.
