They had a lot of complaints fron the traders when they first tried it as they have lost a lot of money through it. I can't see why they wanted to stop it on the old road at Cayton as there are no houses much up there. The councils excuse was thats householders were complaining. It was aload of BS.

Think , way back , Whitby council said they had hundreds of complaints.
FOI revealed they had 3(?) , 2 from the same person

Worth remembering that by May 7th the current Council members will probably be gone. I'm always an optimist.

If you are not wanted them don't go, there are lots of places such as Fleetwood who have provided parking and services, and now benefiting from extra income most responsible motorhome owners bring into the town

And there is the problem. That is why people get angry. And we as a group don't help, we appear to believe that just because we can afford a motorhome, that we are owed a free holiday. Contrary to the belief of owners of these vehicles, we are not the saviour of the High Street. Even if we eat out every day for all meals, the income is a miniscule, almost invisible amount of money in the Councils coffers. And their job? To look after the interests of the local tax payer and voter. They owe us nothing.

Admittedly it was 'arranged' whilst COVID restrictions were still in force, albeit taking place as soon as restrictions were lifted; but the informal gathering at Hawick, where the Tourist Office Manager greeted every motorhomer in person, kept a record of the Motorhomer's spend over the 3 days of the event, In excess of £4,000 spent [supported by invoices/receipts, so that the Tourist Office Manager could present the case to the Council for developing the Victoria Park Aire]. Hardly miniscule spend, and the fresh water tap was a feed off the supply for the builders concrete mixing supply for the Flood Defence work that was underway, so buttons to run. For businesses that had been closed for months, the 'Informal Gathering' was a boon.

And we were better behaved than the Boy Racers who thought it funny to accelerate past the M/homes at close quarters ...

If you sell an extra half a dozen pints , fish suppers or whatever on a wet Tuesday in November it won't keep your business going but it will help .
If I was still in the pub business and had a pub in these areas I'd be a major supporter of motorhomes

not "real world". And of course, people had been stuck at home, so they had money to spend. That is not the normal spend. And you failed to say how many motorhomes! 10 and £400 each? 100 and £40 each or 500 and £8 each.

Take a look at almost any forum involved with motorhoming. very many want stopovers away from others, how do they spend? Ones that will only stop free in towns, how much will they spend? Even pub stopovers are getting fed up with people staying and not using, and sometimes even going into the pub! And don't forget the old adage, there are lies, damn lies and statistics!

Of course it was real world; nothing to do with 'Motorhomers looking good' , it was to help the Tourism Manager present a case to the Council to show that spending £1,000 to install an Elsan would be a benefit to the town, not a burden, and the receipts were hard evidence. But you carry on being nit-picking. There were 30-40 M/Homes, so in excess of £100 per vehicle. As for your utterly needless reference to 'lies, damn lies and statistics', that is just downright rude. Don't bother with a reply - you're not worh it with such a carping response.

FYI: The Elsan is installed; the Informal Gathering each year continues, and judging by the reports of this year's gathering, the discretionary spending continues apace
