.....from it's inauguration in 1896 until 2003.
This aquaduct is 662 metres long and crosses one of France's biggest rivers:

Do you know where it is and why it was built?

My money is on one of our moderators with this one. In fact he's probably used it!

Yes we visited and overnighted there and walked across early last year when I took the photo

Yep, thought so. Thanks for the confirmation, Chris.

We visited the local ceramic factory in Briare. It's has a fascinating history. It was run by a philanthropist who ran it along the lines that Quakers did, providing up to date social facilities for his work people. At one time they had ~1500 people working there. It must have been most of the town's population.
They produced (and still do) buttons, mosaic and beads.
Now, for me at least, the fascinating fact. The Maasai people source their brightly coloured beads from this very same corner of France.

So much to learn, so little time.....

Yes, it was pretty drab in September 2003 when we sailed our barge Avontuur over there. Somewhat tricky staying in a straight line when the winds blowing!!!Briare.jpg
