Sat nav advice

Thinking of upgrading my sat nav to avoid being sent down narrow roads again ,looking at 7 inch motorhome ,caravan type maybe with dash cam .aguri RV or avtex, any buying advice recommendations .sorry text error

I used to have a Nozatec truck sat nav when I had my motorhome. Cost about £50 off ebay and worked very well at not sending me down narrow roads.
 
An expensive option would be the new Tomtom camper model

if you have any mates who have a tomtom gps then you may be able to get a 20 % discount on it

you ring tomtom and tell them your thinking of upgrading and using your mates tomtom registered email address you could be offered the discount
 
I got one of the cheapo Chinese one of ebay, the Xgody 886 cost £38 when I bought earlier this year. I had one I bought off ebay running the same software for about 5 years, was still working but screen was getting a bit scratched but still working ok, was the older type of screen not the capactive type as the Xgody one is. Can put your vehicle dimensions in for your van. Good support from the facebook Nozatec Truck Sat Nav group, also has all the latest maps & some POI's. Easy enough to put your own POI's in accepts google earth KML files. Screen layout can be customised on some of the information it shows, being 7" nice & clear to see. Mine fits nicely on the pop up holder on my 2017 Ducato dashboard.

I got the Nozatec for christmas. It allows you to enter your vehicle size. I'm getting to like it, the more I use it. Especially easy to enter co_ords. Very impressive for the price.
 
Thanks for your comments I believe you get what you pay for ,BUT ,seems like the cheapo truck sat nav owners are happy bunnies £350 for avtex , £50-100 for cheapy . Do the cheapys have a good lane guidance features.

I have a tom tom in the car and a Nozatec in the bus, with a Garmin for back up. I find the Nozatec by far the easiest to use with a large clear display and simple data entry.
 
Hi Guys,
I am using the Copilot Caravan Android App on my tablet.

It doesn't need data (unless you use the traffic information) and I have found it very reliable in the UK and on one trip to Brittany/Normandy.

It's present price is about £35.00 but I'm sure I paid loads less than that. Co Pilot Site

Regular map updates are issued and cover all of Europe.

You can also add POI files, so I've added all the files from the Search for Sites web page.

As I was saying with you already having an android tablet I would try the co-pilot camper van software, I think you get 7 days with all features enabled to see if you like it.

I went for the Aguri as it is ready for motorhome or caravan out the box, you just enter dimensions and weights job done. I have no previous experience of motorhome sat navs so can’t really say if the Aguri is better or not.
 
I have the Garmin 770 camper. Had some teething trouble but cannot vault ot now. It does a hell of a lot more than the Tomtom can, suggest a play with one on Halfords. The only thing Tomtom is better st is traffic but that’s all

Have the elcheapo x gody 704 also about £38 but bought for me after a few mishaps with my car Garmin and I cannot fault it had it over a year and lane identification is great and has height weight and length function hasent let me down in england or france. Havent tried to update it yet .They claim its free. But will see on that one. But if it lasts another year or two still a bargain.

Xgody is more or less the same device as the Nozatec, but with slightly better hardware.
The "Free Updates" are rubbish, though: incomplete and out of date.
Go to the Nozatec UK Facebook group for updates instead.

Hi. I have a Garmin camper 770 and have mixed feelings about it. A few weeks ago travelling from southern Hampshire to Cornwall it accepted the usual route then changed it to go via Yeovil because of a closed road. When we checked the closed road was not on our route so we did take the original route with no trouble. It tried to divert us on the return trip as well. When we reported it they said it was the fault of the the information suppliers and I have had no reply from them.
Also luckily I did not have the van attached when I looked for a parking place on the satnav app as I would never have got a van in there.
There is one other thing it could do better is when a roundabout quickly follows another is to let you know the next turning required after the current one. It can be difficult to change lanes quickly in a short space with a caravan.
A lot of other things it does do well, however and I think all satnavs have bad days. After all I think the mapping and traffic is provided by not many sources.

I use the normal CoPilot for my car and motorbike. Does the caravan version allow vehicle dimension input and use it intelligently? On the car version you can select type of vehicle which does include a motorhome but it doesn't seem to care about road widths, just avoids very tight turns.
