Is It Worth Having A Microwave Cooker In Your Moho?

I've noticed that quite a few members have microwave cookers in their mohos.
I've got one in the kitchen at home but frankly only use it for heating things up (mostly the milk for my coffee!). My particular model is a combination conventional/microwave/grill cooker so I can also use it as a standard cooker for, say, the odd baked potato.
I don't have one in the Moho and wonder if one would be useful or practical?

Only when you are on EHU Colin , we rarely use ours unless we have hook up , so I would not bother

Thanks, Jeff. I've noticed that some moho-ers have high power invertors which can cope with a microwave.
That obviously puts the cost up but if an invertor is needed for other equipment...……

I can only think of 4 specific things I use the microwave for at home, so I can definitely live without one in the motorhome. Mind you, I do occasionally wish I had a faster way to defrost something I forgot to get out of the freezer... need to work on my planning

I bought a small one , carried around for a few months could only use it on sites and I think I warmed milk in it twice , so out it’s gone .

I had one year's ago when my daughter was younger and we used campsites. I wouldn't consider one in the van now, though I use mine a lot at home. I like my milk warmed in the microwave too.

We watched our van being built. They offered us a free microwave and were staggered when we turned it down.
We rarely hook up, even on campsites, and asked them to use the space to give us more storage cupboards for food and bottles.
Works a treat.
Mind you, a less than perfect glass of red wine can be improved by 15 seconds in a microwave.

We hardly use the one at home so chances of a microwave in the van are quite remote...

I don't understand about batteries and inverters and hook up is very rare!

I have a microwave at home I keep my potatoes in it so won’t be putting one in the van even though I have enough solar, batteries and inverter to cope.

There was a one already in when we bought the van we use it when on EHU

That's what happened with us too, and also only use it when on EHU. Previously we'd driven for years without one and hadn't felt the need.

A downside is needing to wrap up the circular glass base tray and castor unit in a tea towel or they rattle as we drive.

There is one in our van and Caz has used it twice when we have been on hookup, last time was to warm the butter so you can see it was a while back.

It is currently full of home made apple pies (not saying where the apples came from Mrs Tezza) but won’t be for long. I would have removed if I could see how it fixed and if I could do it without Caz noticing. If you haven’t needed one yet Colin I wouldn’t bother personally :)

We use the microwave to par-cook the potatoes before roasting, to cook the veg at meal times and heat up custard for the puddings.

The longest run is for 7 minutes cooking the veg prior to serving.

2 X 125Ah batteries and 160w of solar keeps them topped up great.

Yes we have one and use it infrequently. Main reason for that is it is located too high up. I would have thought in this day and age of health and safety having it over head height would not be allowed ?.

Had a microwave in my last van and was glad I have one in my new van but then I realised I never used it. It seems to be one of those things I really want but not sure why.

I use mine a lot at home and wish there was one in the van. I used to carry one - it travelled on the floor between the bunks and I lifted it up on to the top of the cooker to use when on site (I don't turn the gas on at all when I have EHU). However, as I got smaller vans and started to use EHU less and less, I left it at home as it gets in the way when not being used. I would definitely use one when on EHU if I had it built in.
