Over the last year or so have seen posts where people have given countdowns to their retirement...in days even !! Now, who have recently retired and fancy wintering in Spain/Portugal. We head for our 4th winter in sunnier climes this October...anyone else ?? Maja07

Since I retired six years ago we spend a chunk of the Winter in the California desert, where warmth and sunshine are pretty much guaranteed. Wouldn’t want to miss the whole winter though. Last year I was a bit disappointed to miss seeing the Beast from the East with its spectacular snow.

We're wimps
Hate cold, damp, grey weather. We left Blighty last week. Well be back in the spring.
We have a hovel, half way up a hillside, in the hills ,inland from the East Algarve.
Paul you can't really be refered to as wimps, a few other names but never wimps.
As for you living in a hovel, well it's definitely a five star hovel in my book and I wouldn't mind roughing out the British winter in it.

We usually go south beginning of January for 3 months, can't miss the family Christmas!

So do we but 2 new grandkids due Jan & March so are flying to estepona for 5 weeks in apartment b4 Christmas and then will delay Europe trip til late summer probably and hopefully get to Italy & poss Greece. ??

We are off next week for a few months. Hopefully Christmas there. I do miss family Christmas though but we don't speak anymore so no loss there.. I have new partner with a new family .

We are hoping to spend the early part of the cold and soggy bit of 2019 in Portugal / Spain, but Sue has got her knickers in a bit of a twist over this Brexit thing. Are there any who can advise? It was initially March and April, but I suppose February to the 28th March would do. Will I still be able to bring a van full of vin back over to the UK ?

Tell Sue to untwist her underwear.
Play safe and take the long ferry ,avoiding France.
It might be a bit parky, if you're planning to drive down in February, but you might be lucky.... You, ? Lucky ?

That won’t make any difference it is still the EU :)

Well, we share a Brittany Ferries membership with a friend so we get a 3rd off over to France plus a free cabin during daytime crossings, it also gives us 10% off the Spain crossing, which is what I had planned to do. The Bay of Biscay is always interesting at that time of year, but we still do it. But, can I reassure Sue that we will be ok? I would like to go mid Feb, spend a few weeks, maybe 3 or 4, and then the same again in an apartment (or whatever) in Portugal or Spain. Perhaps Neil, you'd care to pm me with your advice.

I too, am off to "sunny spain" early December.
Why? Who likes british winters? Not me.
I am going Pompey to Santander, 1st time I have used this route, so any comments etc. would be welcome :giggle:

No family to have Christmas or New Year with so we escape south as well, gets us away from the festivities!
We've not bothered with family Christmas for years either !! Binned the card list even....waste of trees !!! Can't wait for xmas day at the beach bar in our shorts as usual !! Maja

Do you have an RV stored out there, or buy and resell, or maybe rent?
Must say I quite fancy spending time in Arizona over the winter myself :)
