Trev not sure if you can answer but worth a shot, do you know what the minimum memory setting can be for Kali Linux by any chance? Spun up a VM last night on my MacBook and went with the recommended 2Gb setting and disaster, MacBook only has 2 x 2Gb modules fitted which has been plenty for my needs up til last night. Set a scan running and that was it, Kali hardly responding apart from the scan and OSx even worse.

I didn't want to run it from a live drive USB key at the moment until I have got it how I want it so may have to resort to Windows 10 laptop with more memory spending on your answer

EDIT: its a VM running on VirtualBox and 64bit, may have to give 32bit version a go as that should be less memory needs

I thought I had read on one of the forums that he was taking the family away for the holidays

Back today, kali is not a distro i have used so not sure,i would have thought 2 gig would be pleanty as it will run on a pi board, may i ask why you wish to run this distro as most folk stick to the top 4/5 easy to use ones.

It for ethical hacking/pen testing Trev, its something I have wanted to have a look at for years but never had the time before. It ran on 2gig doing a single scan but took the MacBook out for any other use so not an option on here I dont think. I do have another old MacBook and a couple of windows laptops but ideally I wanted to have it on a single device to take round with me in the van where I hope to be mostly.

Will price up a memory upgrade next I think and see if its come down a bit

Niel I have sent your conversation off to Bletchley Park to be decoded, I'll join in once I get the transcript back.

Ha ha Lee, suffice to say it is for a specific purpose to use as a tool, not for browsing the web, email and Youtube :)

Thinking about it thats petty much all I ever use my Macbook for so probably starting with the wrong thing anyway :)

It wasn't a complaint , I was just amused at reading something I had no idea about.
