Induction stove

Does anyone else use an induction stove?, I bought a 500W one from Maplins closing down sale and used it the first time at Henley for Maggy to cook samosas but it kept switching off and the pan didn't get up to temperature which spoilt the samosas, we found the reason to be that the pan was too big and covering the controls which caused it to switch off.
After the disappointment we thought give it one more try and if it is no good then sling it so we have used it this trip using smaller pans and found it to be excellent using either the inverter or EHU, boils the same amount of water faster than gas or the electric kettle by a long way, wish I had bought two now?

Let me know when you’re using it if I’m likely to be about Terry, cos it would be, induction heater 1, pacemaker 0.
Then again, you might just want to get rid of me. I can take a hint

Thanks Terry for that, I now know why mine cuts out

The Maplins 500W hobs are great. I have a pair of them (well, one is the Lakeland badged version) and found them so good I bought a bunch more at the sale price and sold them at next VW Show I went to. I use mine in the awning or Gazebo.
I use a Maplins 2000W Induction Hob fitted inside but never use it at full power as even at half power the kettle is boiling by the time I have the cups and teabags ready.

Ikea also sell a single ring induction hod.
Used induction at home for years.
Lots of control better than gas.

We bought the Lakeland induction hob (https://www.lakeland.co.uk/17883/Lakeland-Smart-Touch-Induction-Hob) and never use the gas now as long as we're on ehu. Of course you need "induction" pans to work on the hob. It has a number of settings for different cooking styles, and the power can be varied on 3 of the programmes, but a bit of experimentation is needed. Great bit of kit.
Interesting. Just like the Lakeland 500W Hob is identical to the Maplins 500W Hob, the Lakeland 2000W Hob is the same as the Maplins 2000W Hob.
I have the Maplins 2000W unit integrated into my Camperbus Kitchen worktop and I agree - Great bit of kit :)

I looked at the IKEA Hob and while it is cheaper than the Lakeland unit, I don't think it is close to it in terms of appearance and 'sleekness'.
(The Lakeland/Maplins one was perfect for dropping into a cutout)

use my induction hob all the time when I am on electric hookup

Could blame predictive text!
Or need to improve my proof reading skills( which are sadly lacking)
When I wrote the first post instead of 'Maplins closing down sale' it changed to 'Napkins closing down sale'?

We're in Spain just now on 6 amps and so far it hasn't blown the fuse, even with the kettle and heating on at the same time. We start the hob first, then the kettle because on another site, on 10amps, doing it the other way tripped the mcb at the bollard.

TBH, while that is convenient, I would not be very trusting of the 6A MCB you are running through as a 2000W Hob (even on the lower power settings), a Kettle and Heating will surely add up to over 1500W?

We only use a 900W kettle in the van so with the 500W hob we can use them both at the same time, we have a 500W heater so unplug that if using both of them on 6A, I use the TV and STB's on 12v even on EHU so the only other power use is the battery charger

I am sure you can - but running a Kettle AND a Heater AND a HOB at the SAME TIME on a 6A supply. Give that a go...

PS. The Hob in question is a 2000W Hob and not a 500W. The relevence of this is that the 2000W Hobs, when set to say 400W still run at 2000W intermittantly - they switch on and off constantly to get the average setting to 400W. So how long a 2000W Hob set at 400W would actually run on a 6A/1500W Supply depends on how quick the switching is compared to how fast the 6A MCB is.

I was agreeing with you because your post was in reply to someone else who had the 2000W hob, I was just pointing out how I balanced my use, halogen ovens work the same (intermittently) and I have tripped a MCB a few times before using one, the trick is to only risk it when you have access to reset it yourself, no fun on a wet winters night when they are locked and you have to ask the warden a few times?

A very good point on the "remote" MCBs and no access to reset.
And a good point on the Halgon Oven. We have one (in the house) but only used it rarely - and now you mention it I think I recall the 'light' going on and off (really should remember to use it more!)
I have my Charger and general sockets on a 6A MCB inside the Camper - and if plugged into a limited supply would probably turn off the other MCBs to stop the Kitchen sockets overloading the 6A circuit.
