PCs and Scanners !

Having worked as a Network manager for my last 20 years before retiring..I reckon I am pretty used to making things work as I want them.
Got a new shiny ASUS Transformer in September Win 10 64bit Touchscreen and tablet mode. (Can detach Keyboard and use it like a tablet)
12 or 13in screen which is great for the MoHo and I can connect it to a spare TV if I want a bigger screen.
I also have a very good HP Scanner (Scanjet 5530) which is also able to batch scan photos in an autoloader.
Must be 15 years old but good as new.
Trying to install the drivers was a real pain
HP site useless (surprisingly)
Vuescan no help
Google Posts seem to indicate no go..
BUT persistence pays and I found the drivers and it now works perfectly.
Taking photos of documents is simply not reliable enough...Yes I have done it but you cannot beat a proper flatbed scanner.
Various profiles available and you can ramp the resolution up if you so desire.

PS the Asus transformer was a refurbished item from a well know supplier
Similar to a new MS surface pro but only £500 rather than about £1000

It Flies !

Aha! :)

You shouldn't have admitted that ;)

Now I know who to ask if I have a techie problem out on the road :)

PS I have a 2011 Macbook Pro which works pretty well at the mo.
Purchased second hand as price of new Apple gear is extortionate!

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. Love using the products, but the cost of buying will suck your life blood - nowhere near as expensive as owning a MOHO though!:ROFLMAO:;)

Look on the positive side, they always work, no annoying updates every day or two, worth something second hand etc.... what would a 2011 asus be worth today?

Except the amount you have lost on the purchase price is more than you would have paid on the 2011 Asus when new.
Always work? hmm, have to differ on that one as well.

I have never used or bought Apples. So my next sentence is just my perception !
I believe they used to be better (15-20 years ago) for DTP and graphics but not now.
IMO over-engineered and over-priced. But more significantly I know windows and how to clean-up every so often !

Oh no it did not Trev.
I tried the scanner on my old "Netbook" which runs Lubuntu ! No Go.
But I am not that familiar with Linux etc .
Might give Linux Mint another go on our son's Old laptop.. Just bought him a new one ...4 years old...(The laptop not the son)
So back to windows and a bit more hunting !

Linux? Pah! My Linux install crapped out for no reason and won't book anymore. Luckily I did a dual boot with Win7 and so can still boot to that and use the computer.

Don' upset Trev He will send the Irish Mafia round ...By email of course
I'l be safe - can't pick up emails anymore with Linux :)

Ref Apple vs Windows ... I bought my OH a refurb Mac Pro Laptop back in 2012. cost around £800 I think. Bought myself a brand-new HP Splix2 in 2014 for £300. Like your ASUS, it is a laptop that converts to a 13.3" Tablet.
Both machines working. 'Downgraded' the Windows box back to Win 8.1 after got really fed up with Win 10 after the free 'upgrade'. The Apple box is constantly wanting to update stuff (so much to no annoying updates!).
If the Windows box self-destructed today, it would still have cost less than the Apple has lost even it if has some 2nd hand value.

Found a nice apple 'feature' when I had my iPad (Apples never have faults, just 'features') . The iCloud only works normally up to 1000 photos. as soon as you have the 1001st photo, the thumbnails are screwed. Click on say the 1056th photo and you get presented with the 56th photo, What a PITA that was to sort out and be able to get the new photos.
Never, Ever buy an Apple product by choice again.
