Data only sim

I’m going to need a new sim for my wifi. Touring France, Spain and Portugal. Spending the bulk of my time in Spain.
Can anyone recommend a data only SIM card supplier. My Brit one . reduces data from 24 gb to 12 when used abroad , cheers

I use a three data only and never had a problem, but I just use it for browsing and emails.

Three is the one I have. Hopefully more folks will contribute ?

I've found genuine "data only" SIMS tend to be more expensive than phone sims. I use Sky Mobile (runs off O2) - have 10GB/Month data plus unlimited calls and texts in a SIM Only contract and fitted in my MiFi. I Just ignore the calls and text parts.
I like the Sky ones as any unused Data rolls over to a data piggybank (got 97GB saved up currently) and is saved for up to 2 years and can be allocated to any phone on same contract, so easy to share. (I have a £5 Sky Mobile contract on my own phone incl. unlimited texts and calls but just 500MB Data - I just pull in data from the piggybank when I need it)

Del, I assume you're talking about putting a sim into a mifi unit? If you buy 2 or more of the 12GB 'All you can eat' sims from Three, then you can use the whole of each sim, rather than be restricted to half of one 24GB sim. I hope that makes sense? I got caught out like that last summer. They're still really good value sims if you don't want to sign up to a monthly data contract with anyone. Nothing to stop you buying as many 12GB sims as you think you'll need for your trip. It used to be that you had to activate each sim before you left the UK but someone told me recently that it isn't necessary... I'd defiitely check on the Three webisite though. In fact, I'd be tempted to use each sim once in the UK before I left, just to be 100% sure.

3 12gb sims are almost as much (£25) as a 30 day sim only Vodafone 50gb data sim (£30). Buy one of those and cancel it when you return. You can use all 50gb.

I use the Three 12gb cards in my iPad and found it was more than enough for 3 months travelling. I don't download much (films etc) so Jennie's suggestion of getting more than 1 card may be better for you. They last a year.

Somebody once told me if you don’t check how much uve used, in one of the mi-fi thingumy gigs, clock doesn’t start ticking! Don’t know if this is right, haven’t tried it.

Unfortunately no it isnt right lol

Does anyone know if you can use a phone SIM in a mifi ( huawei 5577) as I thought it would not work? Can't remember where I read it though but think it was that the provider recognised the device and blocked it if not a phone?

There is now a thing called Net Neutrality

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers should treat all transmission of data over the Internet equally and not discriminate or charge differently based on user, content, website, platform, application, type of equipment, or method of communication.

So any sim card on any plan should be able to be used in any devices for any purpose.

Yes that’s exactly the model I have, I get the 3 24gb internet with legs SIM cards but they do 12gb as well.

Sorry did you mean locked to a provider? I made sure mine was unlocked, some providers make a charge to unlock them

As above, I’m using a 3 SIM card in a Huawei WiFi via my phone to send this. Believe me, or if you ask the previous poster , if a numpty like me can do it, anyone can.
Used a 24gb now using 12’s .

Exactly what I was told in our Local 3 shop last week but only on their recently supplied devices

Sorry Rec I missed what you were asking. The 5577c takes a full sized SIM card, depending on your phone it could be one of three different sizes. You can get adaptors to make it fit if you are on micro sim size (iPhone 6,7,8 amongst others)

Best SIM card deal I have found is a Simyo. Available in Spain but can be used anywhere in the EU including Uk for the moment. It piggybacks off Orange Es so good coverage. It costs 17 euros for 25 gbs.

I tether my ipad to my phone, but Three warned me that if I did that I would not get a warning just before data ran out, so could potentially end up with a large bill. I'm on a monthly contract.

I use 3D watchdog pro on my android to tell me how much data I use, I recommend getting this or its iphone equivalent if that’s what you have.

Also check your options on the three app. On Vodafone I can stop any charges to the bill so if the data is used up it just stops. I would have thought they all do this.
