Electrical Help Needed

Hi I'm looking for someone to check out the wiring on my van and possibly fit solar panels.
Does anyone have any suggestions in the South Lanarkshire/Glasgow area.
Can't seem to find any. Must be hiding their light under a bushel.
 
If you don't mind it taking 12 months I hear Wully is good with solar panels :ROFLMAO:

sorry I can't help more but why not look further afield, you can make it a small break to go south for a good installer
 
There is a company called Rhino Installs near Preston, I know it is a good distance from you but they seem to have a good reputation and have been used by other members on here. They have some really good customer feedback, worth a look.

They are just off ( 2 - 3 minutes ) Junction 29 Bamber Bridge on the M6. I`ve used them for a job and they are very good.

I also used Rhino Installs - about 6/7 years ago - and he did a great job of fitting a refillable gas system. I don't know if they still are but they were a mobile service back then. I live in Sussex and the guy came down here to do the work for an additional travelling fee. If Preston is a bit far, why not give them a call and see if they can come to you.

What do you mean by "check out the wiring"? Anything in specific of concern or is this a new van to you you just want to understand more?
What van do you have?
I travel to Glasgow occasions to visit family and could maybe take a look?

Someone who is a bit closer to you is Motorhome services in Perth, they offer a solar panel fitting service, I have never used them to date so I am unable to say what they are like.
 
Thanks for all your replies. Sadly my van took early retirement and had to get dragged off to that old scrap yard in the sky.
I have however bought another one and am starting from scratch again so will probably be back looking for advice in the near future.
The new van is a Citroen Relay minibus that I'm converting, so if anyone is looking for some seats give me a shout, I've got about a dozen to spare.

Good luck with the new van :)

Ref the seats, I found no takers for all the ones I took out of my Minibus. I stripped them down and got back a fair bit of money on the Seatbelts and also if yours are secured using the Unwin QR mounts, they are popular second-hand (I shipped around 8 pairs to Iceland and the guy was well chuffed as would have been over £1000 new there apparently!)

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. All I could see was a dozen seats cloging up my shed for a couple of months. Might pay for some solar panels. ?

Solar panels are a doddle to install for a competent DIY'er if you use a reputable supplier who specialises in motorhomes. I fitted a 20 wattpanel recently from Sunshine Solar, call them or look thump on their website www.sunshinesolar.co.uk. They supplied the kit with comprehensive installation instructions. You will find their kits include all the parts and wiring you need. I installed a panel with the ability to charge both the habitation battery and the vehicle. As the vehicle is not used very much this time of year I have kept the two batteries charged off hook. Even in the depth of winter on dark days there is a good charge according to the display.

Thanks for that. I'm still at the planning stage so might just go down that route. I'm not scared of a few bits of wire but when it comes to split chargers I need clear guidance.? Sounds like these guys offer the kind of guidance I need.
 
They do indeed offer lots of support, I emailed them over a couple of queries and got personal replies. Be sure to order the best length of heavy duty cable for the supply feed to the batteries. My own took more than I first thought so err on the longer side. Planning the cable routes took the longest time of the whole installation. Mostly on my Eura Mobil the cables are hidden and I could get away with not having to drill through the roof as there is a route down the rear trim at the back next to the solar panel. If you do drill through the roof, buy cone cuts as they do a very near job
