I STRONGLY ADVISE ANYBODY IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL
TO LOOK UP : STORM MARTA
And take whatever action you can.

Just watched a you tube young coup,e from geordie land in Portugal whose area is wrecked and they're lucky to be alive after the devastation they've went through and have a fund me been raised

Hope you are all safe down there. No hero’s please, just stay safe.
Pauljenny, please keep us up to date if poss, big hugs.

we have been over here for kirsten, leanardo and now marta and have been incredibly fortunate breezy at the worst it’s when you see pictures of the devastation in places you know ie Pomarao is still flooded but the Mertola council website reports that the the flood waters have receded by 5 meters ! just think about that they are still flooded but the water has gone down over 16 feet , one of the two bars used by many of us for birthday celebrations casual drinks etc was flooded out not just a couple of feet but two foot above ceiling height the poor young greek lad that took it on from fatima a couple of years ago must be devasted , the parque de rio campervan park at silves has been evacuated by the civil defence twice and the tolerated overflow outside also , let’s hope that the worst of it is over not just for us snowbirds but the poor locals

It looks to be easing up, away from the south coasts and rivers.
Based on the less than reliable weather forecasts.
We shall see.

Its difficult to imagine that amount of water given where it usually is. As you say the young couple must be devastated, they worked so hard while we were there.

I’m in a bit of a quandary. As a tourist, would I be helping the local economy, although I don’t spend a great deal on meals out, one or two, and usually only drink around the van. Or, would I be adding to the strain of the local authorities by possibility being in the way.
My ferry is booked, so I will be travelling. Do I change my destination?
Tbh I’m hoping that things settle down in the next three weeks or so..
I’ve watched the flooding on TV. Heartbreaking.

No, on reading this back, I’m not asking for advice.. It’s something that I have to work out for myself.
Buck stopping and all that.

Swedish friends have asked me to buy stuff from Tesco’s for them. If I don’t meet them in Portugal or somewhere near, I’m stuck with almost £90 worth of Cod Liver Oil.

Sometimes, being helpful bites yer bum.😂
There is always postman Pat, they deliver all over the world nowadays 🤔

personally i’m confident we’ll pretty sure ok hopeful that by the time i get there next week it’ll be fine , there was an article about vilamoura prioritising restoring the beach as without tourists they have no income same for our little bits of spending better than nothing

If nothing else they will appreciate a hand clearing up! Our place has still not been reconnected with anything although the local town now has power but no internet.
