6 month eu trip over 70 insurance quotes?

My partner has Irish passport, so we can. But insurance seems to limit to 70 days for over 70’s
Only thinking out loud. But a cheap flight back and return flight for a second 70?

Alternatively, do as I do, trust in good luck and the GHIC card. As far as I can tell, I ‘ain’t died yet.
Brain dead, that’s a given. The body seems to carry on functioning okay 👌

I suppose what I’m saying is, don’t let anxiety over health issues spoil your trip.

Private hospitals are expensive if you end up in one for whatever reason

I appreciate that. I do travel with only the GHIC and a 3 month supply of meds, purely because I’m unable to get health insurance at a price that makes any sense. Plus, the GHIC entities treatment in State Hospitals.
For reasons known only to themselves, Insurance companies don’t like heart repairs.

Check NFOP . £25 Annual fee , you can then take out their travel insurance. Very few checks . Cheap and , I think , unrestricted travel time .
Basically Civil Service insurance.
Sure I heard about it on here
Restricted to 65 days per trip unfortunately. Also renews on the 1st March each year, not on the anniversary of when your insurance started, so not very flexible.

Martin has had to put up with that for years, now we are with Nationwide - much cheaper than stand alone travel insurance. Might bump in to you in Portugal next year, unless you see us coming 😹

i have an irish passport so the 90 days doesn’t apply and i use saga but personally have never exceeded 90 days even before brexit 3 months jan /April two months sept/oct fits perfectly for us

I might be being a bit sceptical but maybe the reason is that it's one of the main illnesses amongst us oldies so they want to make loads of bish bosh

The examples in the Border Guards Technical Manual all refer to people who are married to EU citizens, rather than partners, and I am aware of someone whose partner had an Irish Passport but who was restricted to the 90/180 days limit. The Irish Passport Authority expands the definition to 'marriage or civil partnership', but I can't see any dispensation for a 'general' partner.

Might be worth checking before the EES really kicks in? I can see the point of restricting eligibility to spouse, or civil partnership (or other family member), to avoid a loophole with anyone/everyone hitching up (temporarily) with an Irish national to circumvent the 90/180 day limit ...

EDIT: Elaine reminded me - on the one occasion that we did use her Irish Passport to exceed the 90/180 limit, the Border Guard asked to see the original Marriage Certificate - he said that a certified copy or similar would not be accepted, and we should always carry the Marriage Certificate with us ...

Elaine is less than 2 years away from having to renew her Irish Passport for the second time. When Tony Blair was rabbiting on about introducing ID Cards to combat terrorism ( overlooking the terrorist opportunity that lobbing a bloody great bomb amongst a long queue of people waiting to get through Passport Control would present, she let her UK Passport lapse, took the Irish Passport and was therefore well ahead of the Brexit curve ...
