I have had an email from Comfort Insurance:

Dear Mr Tomlinson

Over the past 2 months we have seen an increase in thefts of Fiat Motorhomes due to technology available to purchase online, which overrides the manufacturer standard security.
Areas specifically targeted are along the A127 within the postal codes of:

  • CM
  • CO
  • RM
  • SS
If you own a Fiat Motorhome in these areas please be aware of the increased theft risk.
While Motorhome thefts are rare, our claims statistics have shown that Fiats are being targeted. We recommend investigating and installing deterrents and/or taking preventative measures to decrease the risk of theft. Steering wheel locks, wheel-clamps and door locks are some ideas for extra security.
We would also like to mention that Ford Motorhomes still have the highest theft rates in the
above areas particularly including:
  • SO
  • BH
If you are thinking of, or have already purchased a Ford Motorhome please be aware of this increased risk and fit preventatives to the vehicle.
As a result of the increased risk with Ford Motorhomes and Campervans we require certain types of security when you take out or renew an insurance policy with us.

The underwriters, Aviva require your Motorhome to be fitted with a Meta Trak VTS or Thatcham Approved Category 5 or 6 tracking device.

However, if you would prefer not to fit a tracking device please contact our office and speak to our team 0808 1688 150 or info@comfort-insurance.co.uk. We will be happy to look for alternative insurance providers for you, which may not have the same requirements and answer any questions you may have.
We hope you found this information helpful and keeps your Motorhome safe and sound.

Yours Sincerely

Ben Cue

Director Of Operations

So Phil, where has my earlier post about this gone, and here is an update

Following on from our previous email in regards to the Ford and Fiat theft update, we would just like to clarify that the underwriters Aviva only need the tracking devices fitted onto the Ford based vehicles.
The information regarding the Fiat based vehicles is just a precaution to inform you that we have seen an increase in thefts in the past two months. Aviva's current security requirements have not changed but we do recommend being extra vigilant at this time.

If you require any clarification please call.

Yours sincerely
Ben Cue
Director Of Operations

I deleted your earlier post to avoid duplication, as this thread was already running.

Sorry that you are angry, initially it showed the reason, I’ll tick the box to let you know separately on another occasion.

I have a Citroen Relay, built by Fiat so does that mean the above applies also?

Hi *****
I'm sorry you were upset. You mention that your thread wasn't a moderation topic and I'd just like to pick up on that for general info. A huge part of what the moderation team do on Motorhomer to help Phil isn't about 'policing' content but simply routine forum 'housekeeping'. This includes moving threads into the correct forum section to aid searches, clearing out spam, merging comment posts from 2 duplicate threads into one or, very rarely, completely removing threads if they are totally identical. There is an option to let posters know about simple housekeeping changes but it can just prompt confusion and befuddlement! In this case it could have helped, so lesson learned :)

I think if your going to remove threads that are duplicated it would be good practice to instead of deleting the post put a comment and link to the master identical post for want of a better word and then close the thread.
That way no one feels thay have been sanctioned as there is an explanation.

That is perhaps a good idea.

I think it would make the forum untidy if it is just closed with a link, if a thread isn't identical or someone has replied to it then it should be merged with the first thread, if it is identical then I think it should be removed but either way the only mistake here was not messaging the poster to explain why, now that will not happen again and all the moderators will take note, it is a difficult unpaid job

Oh no ?, I’ve just made WC untidy.

There are two reasons why you didn't, first reason was you deleted it not closed it with a link to the other thread, (which I think was right) second reason is that this is Motorhomer.com not WC

Now I remember why I usually keep my thoughts to myself :censored:

Someone posted the same duplicate on WC, so I did as suggested and posted a link and closed the thread. Straight after you posted that this may not be the best idea! Definitely the best way I think is to just delete a duplicate and tick the box to explain why to the poster. We’re all just striving to make this the best motorhoming forum. In general I think that we’re getting there. ?
