another one in trouble !

Speaking as a retired gas wallah, for no reason at all other than I saw in Travis Perkins Warehouse in Leicester a pile of new boilers at about 1/3 of the retail cost. So I bought a shiny new one for £315 including VAT and fitted it. That's less than you would be charged if you got a plumber in to replace a faulty circulating pump. This new boiler has its circulating pump built in. My 'old' boiler was a 2007 one and still working perfectly but I thought maybe the manufacturers will increase the price of their spares to force people to buy new ones. And some government might suddenly decide to not sell gas boilers any more. I haven't noticed any improvement in performance or economy. The old one was a condensing boiler, just as all the new ones are.
If yours was 40 years old then any new one would be a big improvement . . . . . but is far more likely to go wrong and will certainly cost more to fix. . . . . . . but at least they don't have anything nearly as stupid as a wet belt engine.

Ah but do you have a split sys with stat in living room to control the house temp, please dont say you have rad stats, not worth the full of my ass of roasted snow. 😂

I do have a 3 way split system. Downstairs, upstairs, and the hot water tank each have their own thermostat and zone valve. As my system is heat only, and I have solar panels linked to the immersion heater my boiler is turned off for 6 months of the year. The solar panels heat the hot water as their first port of call, then any electric the house wants, then any dregs left over go to the grid for which I get paid an average of £85 a month through the year. When I had an electric car I used the panels to charge it of course. That didn't stop the battery going kaplunk after 2 years . . . .
And yes I do have rad stats. Why would I want to heat the bedrooms during the daytime?
