Good for the heart.just back from 2 weeks in scotland never had a bad look or anything people were fine... unless you count the nasty man who let me walk down 600 odd steps knowing I had to walk back up them after grrr
Had a fantastic time on the islands 3 years aiWe have been up here for three weeks now and have not had any problems with locals but have seen some stupid behaviour by motorhomers...
Four travelling in close convoy on single track road.
Rowdy behaviour on wild camp - hire Van's
Parked on wild site but with awning, wind break chairs and fire.
Parked too close to us once.
As usual these are the minority stuff-you-im-alright brigade who will hopefully be back in Benidorm next year...
No wonder some locals complain.
Some locals have got it right though, there's a load of "camping spots" on Harris. They are just the usual Roadside pull ins above the loch but they have placed a welcome sign suggesting a small donation. Makes you feel welcome.
It's not as bad as some would have you think up here... in our experience anyway.

Left Stonehaven this morning now at tayport, not had any grief since leaving the busier tourists routesWas up in NE corner Stonehaven , Gardenstown and Cullen
Pretty quiet and no problems . Think the hotspots everywhere have problems (often perceived)
We are our own worst enemies at times though
Obvious local one for me was Fisherrow harbour
People were taking the absolute pee .
Of course the local council handled it badly . Easy option height barrier
You’ll be fine it just seems to be the further north areasWe're going to a wedding in Stirling, but we're going up early and staying around afterwards so I hope they behave themselves.
We were on Islay a couple of years ago, staying at the Port More Centre. Everybody driving past waved - it was like the old days.I thought Skye was quieter than I expected although to be fair we just drove down from Uig to Armadale in pishing rain (with no wipers) Ardnamurchan was similar but locals friendly enough. Now on Mull and all is well so far...
Managed to get ferry to Islay booked later in the week so fingers crossed they will be ok as we normally wild camp on Islay and Jura.

My wife and I did the NC500 last year and had a great time but we did see a lot of rubbish close to the Apple Cross site but that was In the wooded area close by, we found everyone very friendly as we did this year when we spent a month back in the Highlands, the shop keepers I spoke too said they where having a great time and a couple of them did mention that the adverse comments are mainly from some of the so called vigilante groups that have took on some sort of hate campaign but we didn’t encounter any and again had a really good time and planning to go back later in the year.My wife and I and our two dogs, have been in Scotland since the middle of June, and we have not encountered any adverse feelings towards us, quite the opposite in fact! We have spent time around Helensburgh, the Kintyre Peninsula, Campbeltown in particular, the Isle of Arran, and are now at Girvan! We have been made very welcome wherever we have been, so I cannot understand why some motorhomers are getting a bad experience!
Ex Greeny.
2 fingers , like WW2 ?We were on Islay a couple of years ago, staying at the Port More Centre. Everybody driving past waved - it was like the old days.
Extract from someone I know posted this who lives not far from Dornie. Glad to see someone can see through the bad press, and she does not own a motorhome. My wife and I did the NC500 last year and had a great time but we did see a lot of rubbish close to the Apple Cross site but that was In the wooded area close by, we found everyone very friendly as we did this year when we spent a month back in the Highlands, the shop keepers I spoke too said they where having a great time and a couple of them did mention that the adverse comments are mainly from some of the so called vigilante groups that have took on some sort of hate campaign but we didn’t encounter any and again had a really good time and planning to go back later in the year.
I had the same experience with that group and nc500 the dirty truth, I pulled up the false poster and got my comments suspended or turned off and could no longer reply, I was told by the owner of the group that she didn’t believe my “it’s a minority that leave litter” and basically said we all left our litter and toilet waste, I could no longer reply to them so left the group before I could do some digging and pay the ignoram a visit and choke her out lolExtract from someone I know posted this who lives not far from Dornie. Margaret Meek who runs the Land Weeps FB page allows no pro motorhome posts. I have been told she is a member of the Kinlockbervie Community Council who have a motorhome Aire in the village and a black waste disposal point at Loch Clash. They make a lot of money from motorhomers for the community. Her attitude is totally disgusting as she is frequently on TV spouting her lies.I had the same experience with that group and nc500 the dirty truth, I pulled up the false poster and got my comments suspended or turned off and could no longer reply, I was told by the owner of the group that she didn’t believe my “it’s a minority that leave litter” and basically said we all left our litter and toilet waste, I could no longer reply to them so left the group before I could do some digging and pay the ignoram a visit and choke her out lol
Unfortunately I think you are right. Just spent a month trickling up the west coast. Lovely people all the way as long as we stayed off the main NC500 route. Only place we were really made to feel unwelcome was up at Stoer, near the lighthouse. Noticed, however, that at least 50% were hire vehicles and that many seemed unused to driving a large vehicle, ending up in unsuitable places, unable to manoeuvre or reverse their van, and causing difficulties for other road users, locals and visitors alike. Perhaps hire companies should be encouraged to give some basic training and some direction about suitable routes for the size of motorhome hired.Think the problems are further north especially anywhere near that NC500. You visited the best place for piece and quiet kintyre and Ayrshire.
