There is a free Aire at Vilafranca del Penedes and an overflow Aire at Santa Margarida [about 1.7 miles away]. The lstter is a 15 mins walk from the Railway Station. PM me if you want co-ordinates etc

The aire at Vilafranca del Penedès is in the WildCamping location app, as are a number of other free and chargeable aires.
https://www.campingcar-infos.com/view.php also shows a number of aires in the area (including both mentioned by Steve), some with comments about transport into Barcelona. Just drag the map to show the area in which you're interested and then click on your desired centre point.

Hi Marchie
We have found it and thank you. Did you go by train to Barcelona if you did how long did it take. Did it feel safe, I realise that’s only a gut feeling nothing in concrete ;)

Hi Penny,

No, we didn't make it Barcelona, we were enjoying exploring Vilafranca, Santa Margarida and a couple of the more remote Vineyard Aires too much. We did stay in Barcelona in 2006 for a City Break and wandered around with gay abandon, running from one Gaudi building to another, via Tapas Bars and cafes, marvelling at being able to wander along the beach wearing tee shirts in December etc. We should probably have been more aware of pickpockets etc, but we never felt threatened, and we were having such a great time [until I got us locked out of the Apartment; but I learned from the concierge how to use a plastic exercise book cover to open a Yale lock, so a useful skill acquired that came in handy 5-6 years later when Elaine locked us out of our Flat on Xmas Eve}, that we just got on with enjoying life!

We have an Ecosse sticker on Brunhilde, and as soon as the locals in Vilafranca spotted that, we were best mates. Fabulous people.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Barcelona and it’s certainly a wonderful city. Definitely requires a little extra care though to avoid the likes of pickpockets especially in the tourist areas.

Hi Penny,

I was just looking at my archived PMs and found one from around mid April 22 'Elaine has been searching online' Train from Vilafranca costs €4 each way and is a 40 minute ride'

Rail station approx 600m from aire.
Information about trains and ticket prices at:

We have been before it’s a fabulous city this time we are hoping to catch the Three King procession. We stayed well outside that time an 1 1/2 hour train ride in. We took bikes that was very funny. We can sit in a bar and watch this time u till they start throwing sweets of the floats ;)
Thank you for your time

So thank you for all your replies we did extensive searching and found Girona a aire with all services and security at €18 a night in Jan 2023. The station which has high speed trains 🚊 30 mins Barcelona and the Renfr trains 1 1/2 hours but only €8 / €11 each way. At Girona you need to validate your ticket in the machine downstairs before boarding.
The Three Kings was awesome

We went last year, a great aire near the town and beautiful old city.
The cobbles and high curbs were a bit of an issue for Linda's mobility scooter but we enjoyed our stay.
Have a great time.

We are now on the free aire at Vilafranca del Penedes. It would be fine to pop to Barcelona from here the police presence is good the aire itself bollarded off. For us we stayed a Saturday night and the market is fab on a Sunday and the whole area needs a big explore. Another 11 aires for free walks cycling vineyards castles and even the sea ;)
Thank you Marchie a very good call.

The Old Town is a delight to explore, spotting the Human Tower Statue plaques and tiles and the bakeries are fabulous [measured against the length of the queue on Sunday mornings!] We had some lovely Tapas from the Bar on the Ramblas [called the Rambals Bar? Brain fade!], with the maroon Sun Shade above [between the Chinese Burger Bar and the Posh Restaurant with hundreds of outside Tables]. It look a we bit seedy but is a wee gem!

Oh, how I wish we were there just now!
