This fire was caused by batteries no not large leisure batteries but your small everyday batteries stored loose in a drawer with tea towels and other flammable materials this was the fire brigades conclusion, be careful how you store you everyday batteries

I am guilty of this Annie but usually have a few screw drivers, spanner’s and other conductive materials close by as well :(

It's the 9v PP3 batteries with the two terminals together that are the most dangerous. Easy to short across the terminals, so best kept in their packing.

Wire wool is the worsed thing it especially with PP3 it makes a perfect fire lighter.
Take care out there life is terminal.

We dump the old batteries in a container ready to be taken to a recyling place. and thinking about it, that container is metal and the batteries are just chucked in there, so maybe not the best idea!!

Annie I have left my used batteries in a plastic bag in the back of my car for when I go shopping and they have a recycle bucket, is this not advisable
I keep my unused batteries in there wrapping and take out when i require them

a bit of cazzie paper in be- tween the batteries or rapt in toilet paper before used, ok pj

Wow thanks for that we have a draw with loads of loose batteries in, as well as other things, will make sure I sort it out at the end of the month.

Please enlighten me what is cazzie paper?

I always was led to believe that cazzie paper was (Sheets of ripped old newspaper or magazines)
Maybe it means something else in his eyes
