Hi
2.3 fiat ducato battery light stays on, this has happened in the past but when i have revved it it has gone out . i have done this but now stays on . I have had the hook up on so that the battery appears fully charged any advice appreciated TIA

First I would start with the fuses and connections , then if fault still showing , I would get alternator checked . Good luck

It sounds like the alternator not charging the battery. Quick simple check is put your headlights on, and rev the engine, the lights should get a bit brighter when revving.

Have turned on all lights etc battery light stays on no increase in brightness sounds like alternator thanks for your response

Try looking at the split charge relay. Ours burnt out and the warning light came on. Mind its on a mervedes not a ducato.

If the progression is that the light would go out after revving and then subsequently not go out the interim might be due to part of the rectifier unit in the alternator failing making the alternator output weak and then the rest of the rectifier unit subsequently failing when the light won't go out. The best thing to do is to put a voltmeter across the battery. Before engine start a fully charged battery should be about 12.5v. With the engine running it should be around 13.5-14v. Some new motorhomes use regenerative systems where the voltages may be lower for short periods with the engine running but if the alternator is serviceable there should always be a period of time where you see 13.5-14v. If with the engine running with high loads (headlights etc) the voltage never gets up to 12.5v the alternator has failed.

Before you do anything technical, try tapping the alternator with a wooden mallet. It could just be that your van has been standing too long. Fingers crossed!

Have checked belt .fuse and connections waiting until tomorrow or dry period for voltage and mallet check thanks for your support
