The AA were brilliant with me when my exhaust fell off when we went France I was 79 at the time

As a backstop, look at AXA Schengen Insurance. Basic and a bit expensive if young and fit, but as we age and gather medical issues the Schengen may become viable as it does not exclude problems or age.

The second link is an example of 2 people abroad for 65 days for £262.10

Think backpackers is only for certain age group ?
I ended up getting co-op bank account which has travel insurance . £15 (?) per month plus had to pay extra fee to extend length of trip . Still massively cheaper

I thought the co-op bank account insurance wouldn’t extend beyond 45 days?

But Nationwide will, we find them ok.
I certainly extended length of trip whether it was to a maximum of 45 days I can't remember .
Never book a return ticket but discovered a while back 6 weeks seemed to be average length of trip .
Sure I read on here Nationwide were not providing insurance on new accounts ?
Hence I went with co-op

That’s interesting as I have recently done a quote with LV, similar ages, but for me added a recent CABG bypass operation and they want just over £500 for the pair of us. I will be looking elsewhere as well.

Just rechecked our policy. Heart attack for me; high blood pressure for Elaine declared; my declaration referred to 2 or more stents fitted after a heart attack within the last 2 years, but with declaration that I can walk more than 200m without breathlessness, and that I have had no more chest pains or similar, and cover provided for £191pa with auto renewal (10%'ish discount for multi policy custom)

So I took out the Annual policy. Looking up Which? they explained that sometimes for some people annual policies can work out cheaper depending on how the company assesses risks. But that’s a heck of a difference.

Previously I have used the C&CC but they’ve stopped and Avanti who I was with earlier this year won’t do Annual for 90 days.

think your cover relates to at time of offer ie if you turn 70 during period of cover that’s fine, but be prepared for it jumping next year, i found saga easiest for over 70s and 90 days cover £249 for both with 1 x diabetes & 2 blood pressure declared
