If a MH (i.e. mine!!) has bodywork damage, will it be an automatic MOT fail?

With that amount damage yes .
If you can tidy it up no Sharpe edges you mite stand a chance.

Cover with faffer tape seems to be the norm here !

I would say tape it up and have a go. Having evidence of a repair being booked might not hurt.

I guess you could ask the station before booking it in for the MOT as well..

Bloody Hell what a shame bet your gutted... could you try that Tape they use on Sealing M/Home & Caravan Roofs it's White & probably won't look as noticeable.

hi gmj. i am afraid i think that is a fail because of the protruding bodywork & i don't think gaffer tape is excepted either . if it was mine i would repair it with like for like but the problem you have is getting access but if you tackle it bit by bit get fiberglass stuck to the back of the big piece then finish off with gaffer tape till set . if you are not capable then its the Bodyshop . looking at the photo i spot a Comanche autotrail we had a cheyenne 840 d & you have to watch out for those tight turns we nearly had a few near misses . cheyenne

Jagged edges and loose bodywork are a fail, it'll need new panels so get a tub of Isopon and make it secure & it might pass, but maybe ask the MOT man first

Thanks all

It's taped up now. The MOT isn't for a while and I'll be getting it repaired as soon as I can but wanted to check just in case.

I think you would have been better with White Tape though 😛
Possibly not, because it looks so good it might have been forgotten. 👍

Most of us have dinged our vans at some time or the other, and we can feel Graham's pain. ☹️

TBF I would still be crying about it, but this is why we pay insurance premiums.

I asked last March about getting some bodywork done at my local repair shop for an acquaintance. I was told that if it had been bought from them, they could do it in October: if not "theirs" then they weren't interested. Good luck!

Ask around the local repair shops, to see off they can recommend a fiberglass specialist.
Deffo an insurance job.
Ask your insurer if they have a preferred repairers.
Don't forget to ask for a courtesy car.
So speaks the voice of experience.

I hate to think of the repair cost, I just paid £200 for the bonnet painting it had a tiny tiny dent in it, and he wanted another £40, I said leave it, it's patina, forty bloody quid my arse.

You should have used white tape and it would have blended in nicely 😊

Yes I would have but as I'm in the middle of Italy there was a limitation to my toolkit hence the grey stuff!
