Bristol Adria Dealer gone bust ... Warranty?

We had an email from Family Travel Centre in Bristol today that they have ceased trading with immediate effect. This is really sad as we used them for all work with our Bessacarr and then we bought our Adria from them in October 2016. We really liked the staff and received excellent service from them. We wish them the very best in sorting the business out and for the future.

However, it leaves us with potential warranty work problems. We accept that we will loose the ‘free’ hab and engine service for 3 years, which was part of the purchase contract. Of more concern is getting warranty work done. According to a forum, James found, other Adria dealers are not interested in warranty work unless you bought your motorhome from them. Adria U.K. apparently have not been helpful.

Grrr. My thoughts are that the 3 year warranty is with Adria UK and it is up to them to identify a dealer that will take on additional work ... but ...

Any suggestions?

Hi,
We had warranty work done one year after buying an Adria Twin by Discover just before they went bust and had further warranty work done a year later by another Adria dealer and the UK concessionaires were ok with that arrangement but that was seven years ago.

I thought Adria always stated you could use any authorised dealer

It will cost you nothing to contact Adria, or it's dealership network.

I needed to buy a replacement back window for my Adria Twin. I contacted Adria UK who told me to contact my nearest dealer. I did this and the dealer said that they were so fed up with Adria's abysmal after sales service that they were cancelling their relationship with Adria. I contacted the next closest and they said the same thing. My third attempt was Family Travel Centre who were very helpful and ordered the window. Due to ongoing problems getting prices and delivery dates for parts not available elsewhere I contacted Adria UK and Adria themselves and I was left with the impression that they don't care about customers who have bought a van from them. In a competitive market this attitude inevitably leads to business failure as customers go elsewhere.

A dealer I have used for two new vans gave the Adria dealership up a while ago, when I asked why they said ‘Adria are hopeless on supporting the dealer once the van is sold’. Seems to be the same service or customers as the dealers. I thought the Family Travel Centre was doing well.

The one before our present motorhome was a brand new 2005 Adria Coral 680SL bought from Glossop Caravans in Glossop, Derbyshire.

It needed a few items fixed / replaced under warranty and everything went great with only one part having a 4 week wait for delivery.

My main gripe was the 78 miles round trip that had to be done each time it needed something doing which thankfully wasn`t that often.

Our present motorhome a 2007 Compass Castaway 500LL was bought new from a very local dealer Campbells Caravans has had to have many many more things repaired / fixed in the first 3 months than the Adria had done in the 18 months we owned it.

Don’t let this put you off enjoying you’re van and a nice van it is too i was looking at the tag adria supersonic and what a nice van it was too. touch and go between that and the Dethleff I went with the Dethleff the thing that swung it all the adria dealers are down south. I had a look and you have a great adria dealer network down south so you should be ok

Just a quick update. Positive news. Adria UK have spoken to Bristol Caravans who will do warranty work. We know this firm reasonably well as it is on a farm where there is a caravan and motorhome club see at which we have used previously. Actually UK had to get their finger out really. As word on the street was that no dealer would touch another firm’s warranty work. We were politely refused by Chelstons.

Within a month of buying my new Chausson in 2009 the dealer Discover closed all their southern branches leaving me with no options other than travel a very long distance for warranty and service works. Discover would not help in finding alternative facilities. I was lucky in that both Premier and Highbridge offered to take on the warranty and service obligations. It speaks volumes to me of the Adria ethos and values that Chelston declined to help you and that Adria took so long to reassure their buyers. PS I am an ex Coral S690SC owner, what has the usually active Owner's Club had to say?
