BT Openreach Scam Call

This may have been reported but I thought I might give a heads up anyway.

Had a call on my landline, chap with an indian accent said he was from BT Openreach and that they had identified a possible fault on my broadband. He asked what my download speed was and when I told him it was 56.2 and 6.9 upload he said it should be much faster and he would put me through to the technical advisor. This second chap said he said he could fix the issue and asked me to download a piece of software called "Teamviewer". This is genuine software but I know it is used so that others can take control of your computer so I told him I didn't think he was from BT as which he became insistent that he was genuine. I asked for a number I could call him back on and the line went dead.

The number they had called from was 01236348114 and when called a recorded message says 'No service is currently running on this number, you have not been charged forth call."

I did a quick internet search which confirms others have had similar calls and this is a scam so would advise extreme caution.

We have had a few calls from BT with a recorded message telling us that our internet will be switched off at midnight and if we think this is wrong to press 1 for assistance, we use VM for our internet so they are not going to get far with that one but even if we were with BT I would never respond to these calls

We got a call like that earlier this year saying our internet was about to be shut off.
OH didn't listen to all the call just hung up, as I would have done.

1 hour later the Internet went down!

(It was actually quite funny how the Scam caller co-incided with the digger in the roadworks up the road going through the cable! :) )

I had one a few weeks back, introduced himself as an engineer, had him on the line for quite a while, told him I was glad they were doing something at last to sort out the problems as I have old aluminum cable from the cabinet which is always causing outages, didn't let him get a word in edgeways, asked if they were going to change it to copper, explained I had fiber to the cabinet. put a fair bit of bullshit in as well, then when I got bored, just as well I've changed to another provider, he insisted Openreach looked after all the providers, I told him , some engineer you are, they don't look after mine, said a few choice words and rang off..
I'm with "VM" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
