Was thinking on joining back up after many years away,we won’t be going abroad this year due to family,
Thinking it may be advantageous to join again
THOUGHTS AND ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I use the Caravanning and Camping Club and use their Certified sites.
I do not say it is better just what we do. Usually £10 to £15
You can look at their sites (not full details) without joining (unlike C&MC)

Yes C&MC have listed sites

I think both are a bit thin on the ground in Scotland

6 of one halfdoz of the other
Useful to be in one...I believe a few of us belong to both !

We`ve been members of the CAMC along with the Camping and Caravanning Club ( C&CC ) for over 20 years now but i`ve seriously thought of packing them both in as we hardly ever use them and never use any of the discounts available apart from the M6 Toll discount but that finishes today https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/membership/member-offers/m6-toll/

We used to go to the CAMC Abbey wood site several times a year when the son lived and worked in London and it was a very easy bus ride to where he lived at the side of Tower Bridge but now he`s back up here we don`t need to.

However .................. the daughter, son-in-law and grandson have now got their first caravan and have joined both of them so i`ll keep it going for the time being then we can go with them when necessary.

The non-member fee for the CAMC is £12 per night and the C&CC fee is approx the same so it doesn`t take many nights to make it worthwhile keeping my membership.

The school holiday fees are eye watering now on certain sites and i really don`t know how some afford it.

Camping and Caravanning Club ( C&CC ) have CS`s, Certificated Sites.

Caravan and Motorhome Club ( CAMC ) have CL`s, Certificated Locations.

They are both the same just different names so as not to cause confusion.

Thank you wooie I was going to ask what the CAMC was as I wasn’t sure

The CMC membership costs £52 a year. C&CC membership starts at £39 fir online membership ( £46 for paper membership)
If you only join one it is better to look at where you are likely to want to camp, and check which club has the best coverage in that area.
Only the C&CC has the temporary holiday sites (THSs) mentioned earlier in thread.

Just priced up one of there site.£56 as a member 72 none member. For 2 nights in May...

Going give it a miss

To throw another into the mix Motor Caravan Club - They have rallies all year round. Just cost me £34.50 to rejoin. I believe you get discounts on Haven Sites.

We have never been a member of the C&MC so cannot comment.
We have been a member of the CCC for the 8 years we have had a van. I have an "app" on my phone and on this computer which tells me when, where and price for their "meets". I use these all the time to stay somewhere or to stop for the night when travelling distance. Most meets are not pre-book so one can look at the weather forecast on a Thursday (or any other day) pick a location we fancy and (after phoning just to check that the meet is on) set off on Friday morning for a cheap weekend. Prices are usually under £10/night and as low as £4/night. Meets are usually over a weekend but can extent to 5 nights but as has already been mentioned, Temporary Holiday Sites (THS) can last up to a month. The meet can be in a field with only water and elsan or can be on a site (usually out of season) with full facilities.
One example I used last year was Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC. They are a site with facilities and charged £17.50/night (ehu was extra). I stayed there in August for £10/night (ehu extra) with a meet organised by CCC. Same site, nearly 1/2 price!
If we use a ferry then the cost of membership is paid for (and more, on expensive crossings).
The meets usually have a hall and entertainment is usually laid on usually just Saturday evening. There is no compulsion to go into the hall and join the other "campers".
Before Christmas we attended a meet at York racecourse from Friday until Sunday and went Christmas shopping at York Christmas markets. On Saturday evening entertainment was laid on in the racecourse complex. Cost for the two nights and entertainment was £25.
Most members don't use the meets for cheap stays and I have no idea why.
We hardly ever use "proper" sites as they are too expensive. Unless I really have to, I won't pay more than £10/night to stay somewhere. (Yes we did in York, but £12.50/night in York is cheap!)
Happy New Year, Dave.

I would guess because they don't know about them happening?
Very interesting post to read - I will explore this idea more. Thanks!

The C&CC site has a section relating to these "rally meets" on their home page, the prices even in Europe out of season are very good and even better if you're planning long term, in UK they're organised by a local member but available to all members, often schools out of term or local football clubs out of season. Typically I'd forgotten all about them so never used them myself, they should receive more publicity imho.

We are members of the C&MC and in the past we were members of the C&CC.

Personally speaking we didn't like our experiences with the C&CC as their CS locations tend to have far more people on them than the CLs of the C&MC.

We never use the big club sites but we do use their CL's very extensively throughout our touring year which runs normally from May 1st through to October 30th. Each year when the new Sites Directory is published I religiously go through the CL's listed in the various counties we happen to frequent, cross checking those I find for £10 and below with the references for them that they have listed on the C&MC member website.
Those I/we like, we then ring in fluorescent ink as well as marking them onto our maps with a pink blob.

It is all a matter of Pot Luck and Pot Timing.
Both the CAMC and CCC cheapo sites can be both good and bad..
To suggest one or the other is better is (IMO) ill founded

Quoting you again so I could say thanks again :D
Just been looking at the website and downloaded the app. I think this tip will be very handy (y)

I belong to both C&CC & CaMC.

I keep intending to ditch CaMC as I don't get much use out of membership - but then I think oh well, it's less than a quid a week and it does give me more options when out & about.

I've been a member of C&CC for 25+ years and I do use their sites a lot, plus I have their RAC Arrival package and sometimes their insurance has been good value.

Caz, if you have been a member of C&CC for more than 25 years and are over 65, you may be entitled to veteran membership which is about half price. Naturally it is not widely advertised on the website, and you will probably have to use the specific word ‘veteran’ to turn up the information.

Was thinking on the c&mc so the daughter could use it with the grandkids esp as were not going abroad for holidays
