We overnighted on the huge sea front car park at Newhaven when we took the 10am ferry last April, Gordon. Far more pleasant than the ferry check in parking with superb views. Also easy walk for a super meal at the Hope Inn - highly recommended. Yes it is £10 with no facilities but it’s a great place and safe - height barrier is locked in place until 8am but plenty of time to get round to check in.
