Hi
We have been looking for a motorhome with 2 single beds and Automatic gearbox for quite some time. (At our price point obviously)
Finally found one and not too far away in Morecambe, a 2007 Auto Trail Miami SE £32995, we arrived Sunday afternoon to view and test it, everything seemed to be in order. The mot run out in 2019, ok the van has been in Spain and has only just come back to UK. Deposit paid.
They agreed to mot with no advisories, all done. Serviced, all done….2 weeks passed by still not ready. On first inspection on the Sunday I had noticed a perfectly straight line across the floor in the passage way leading to the end bathroom, I agreed to buy as long as that is inspected and ok, and a few other things that needed looking at.
Carried out another inspection last Wednesday, the line was also under the beds but not as raised. I suggested that the floor had failed.
Then the owner told me they would put it right, I wanted my deposit back, he then said no we will fix it. He also said that no damp in the van, 100% sure… anyway we had a “discussion” I suggested the floor had dropped, he called the guy who does the work for them, he tells me “it’s probably an inspection hatch come loose” again I ”discussed” with them both and again asked for my deposit back….
They promised they would cut the beautiful carpet which was screwed down with SS screws and inspect fully on Friday morning. I again suggested they invite me to the reveal. Nope.

Friday around lunch time a phone call after 2 pictures sent to me. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

The floor had split and dropped around 20mm between the crack and the side panels of the bed where the bathroom door frame was. They very meekly refunded my money…… smug is me, relief lots of.
unfortunately we had also sold the caravan we’d bought to try out. First time in 20 years we have no Van..

Buyer Beware….I’m sure they will do the right thing and repair correctly….NOT!

… stay clear or look very very closely.

Our holiday in August in Europe will now be in our car…. At least I’ll get the roof down 🤷🏻‍♂️ SAAB 9-3

Back to Autotrader, Ebay, etc 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
ill try and upload the photos they sent me, it will make your toes curl.😡😡😡😡

For the life of me I just don't understand why in this day and age wood is still used in vans, esp the floors.
Yeah! Absolutely, but then look at the manufacturer.🤔 hhmmm. We met a couple a few years back at a motorhome show, who kept coming back to look at our Hymer. They had bought an Autotrail, NEW, can't remember the model, broke their hearts. and no joy out of the vendor, it spent more more time back in their workshops than on the road. My advice, 'Not fit for purpose' if they don't accept their responsibility to provide a product that meets ALL the crieria for which it was designed & manufactured, then legal action. Only the most stupid will allow to go before the wigs 😊

You clearly dislike Autotrail, however I guess its the final QC issues that has killed so many car makers. There are plenty of Auto-Trail vans around so if you get one that's squeezed through the final checks then yup its a big problem.
Swift had similar issues with some of their models...
The point I was trying to make is, only after very careful inspection was the fault found. This should have been identified by the dealer buying it and rectified before placing on the market.
I've found a Rapido 966A class similar layout, but thats in P&P in Gosport..thats a 05 plate @32995.
But its too far to inspect atm 🤷🏻‍♂️ dooh...

That's why went for a bailey van only one on market at our price range and spec we found with grp/plastic under floor.
They still over boarded with ply inside bonded to under floor for fixing furniture to.

Ooo thats interesting info... what year did they start doing that?

We have just sold our 2003 Autotrail (well 2 years ago) sold to a friend who is living in it. No major problems (fingers crossEd for her) I just wish pur new Rapido had been built to the same standard!

Seems a lot of dosh for an 05 plate? Does it have all the necessities? Sat Dish & TV, FF, Dual gas-electric heating, Gas Oven, etc.? Had 28k miles on clock & have it 8 years. Total value at time purchase £28k

If the van had been in Spain with no Mot it was illegal as vehicles Must be road legal in its own country ie mot tax and insurance which it could not have had with no mot so probably someone was full timing in the van in Spain on a piece of land or somewhere like Benidorm camp sites, so it might have had excessive use ?

Probably, but like so many in our country... too many vehicles, too little officers 🤷🏻‍♂️

How do you reach that value? Is there a "book" like glasses guide for motorhomes?
I'm seriously interested in your answers, I can get car values from friends in the motor trade but they can't value motorhomes. We found another its a Knaus on ducato 150bhp a 2012 plate, auto box, solar, full winter pack etc...10k miles.
Full service history... can you value that? Very very good condition 👏
