Just came across this posted by a Dutchman on a VW van forum. I wonder how long before our lot latch on or perhaps they have already!
Sat here watching TV just flicking through a few of the regional TV stations, landed on a channel covering the city of Leiden and local area, a little north of Den Haag (The Hague).
Article comes up on the local news program.
As of January 1st. 2024 all camper owners in the city region with a registered parking permit must find somewhere else to park their campers as the parking permits will no longer be extended!
Apparently there's around 128 parking permits on vehicles registered as campers within the city parking zone.
The reason it seems is that the local authourities want to create more space for regular cars.
One of the interviewees on the slot was an oldish woman, her and her husband own a T4 camper which is also their daily transport, will no longer be allowed to park their camper outside their house or anywhere within the city parking zone.
As of January 1st. 128 people have to find another place to park their campers, whether it's their only transport or not, probably miles from where they live.
What's stupid though is that if someone has say a converted fire engine or such like but is registered on a company name they still get a parking permit.
And as if that's not bad enough for the camper owners in Leiden, a few weeks back the announcement came through that the government wants to double the road tax on campers nationwide!
As it is at the moment vehicles registered as campers and mobile homes in the Netherlands pay a quarter tarif, 25% of road tax that would have to be paid if same vehicle was registered as a private van.
(There's also a fijnstof (fine particle) tax on older diesels, I pay at present around €88.00 a year, road tax on my T4 is around €640.00 a year.)
And as a side note, from 2030 the city of Leiden is also banning all fossil fuel powered boats on all the waterways within the city limits. 28km of canals in the city centre.
