No definitely Wully's fault, didn't happen with Christine in charge, and he only grabbed the hose when he realised the fire was melting the ice in his whisky.

It's getting funnier! Thanks, Paul. Yet another laugh-out-loud moment.

Colin ???

I take it that Hugh, Pugh, Barney Magrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub weren't attending the function either. (Some alliteration and lots of silliness.)

I've yet to go to a new year meet, but I think that's what happens then. The only problem is, that it still has to be planned so you don't get too much of one thing.

In general, I think it probably works best when there are only a few people.

Last summer, at the meet Channa organised, he fired up a BBQ. We all took what we wanted to eat and some extra to share. It seemed to work well.

Agree with you there Sue think it was probably because it was a small meet. Bbq and the meet were A1. Company and food. All food was cooked to perfection.

I've got some great news to share about communal meals.
Today we went to the Timanfaya National Park here on Lanzarote. The park covers about 15% of the island and is kept as pristine as possible. No footprints even! Tourists are bused around to view the natural splendour.
At the centre of the park are hot air vents and as a demonstration of how hot the exhausting gases are the guides pour water into modified vents which, a couple of seconds later, emit a plume of steam and water geyser-style. They also ignite invasive brushwood cleared from the surrounding lava fields.
There is also a restaurant which offers meats cooked thus:

you guessed it - over a hot air vent from the currently dormant volcanic cone.

I'm confident that I can source a suitable grid for meets but would appreciate advice on sourcing and transporting a hot air vent for use at meets. I've already checked Amazon and vents are not listed.

Perhaps that's what the Spanish Moho group came to Lanzarote for? (See my post about them in the 'Collective Noun' thread if you haven't already).

I'm pretty sure that WC have purchased a large BBQ for this purpose.

I think you're right, yorkslass. I think it was at Rutland earlier this year. My, but that seems an awful long time ago!
