Cracked tyres in the tread.

Our car is now 5 years old. It’s done about 7.500 miles since new.

It came with Bridgestone tyres and it looks like it could fail the next mot.

There are cracks on all the tyres .just at the bottom of the tread .
The tyres are as new condition and worth nothing now.

I have just spoken to a tyre fitter and he said it’s lack of use…

Anyway advised me to fit cheap tyres as it will happen again through lack of use.
So ordered 4 new tyres today
The same size and speed rating to be fitted next week. I was going to go for a more expensive tyre hopping they would last longer..

One would have thought Bridgestone would have lasted a bit.

So lack of use knackers your tyres…

But the spare is in perfect condition..

Thought lack of use caused cracks in side walls not the tread? Send an email to Bridgestone with pics and see what they come back with if only 5 years old.
Nothin on the side walls at all.

It’s hardly worth the bother the time it takes to find whom to sent it to and then awaiting a response and possibly ping ponging for some time to me it’s not worth the time.

Well not for me anyway. I have so much to do but that’s very very low on the todo list.
So just sticking on a cheap set of tyres at £300 solves it.

Just will not get Bridgestone again. They were fitted when the car went out of the factory..

Most likely not what others would be . But for me yes leave it and move on.

Cracks aren't usually an mot fail unless the cords are visible ....

All sorts of things can cause tyre cracking
Heat/cold/sunlight ....but most common is lack of use ...the rubber used is a natural product and needs 'exercising' to keep the polymer like chains flexible ...
The tyre carcass is thinnest between the treads so a rather weak point ...

I had this happen a couple of years back on the motorhome ...
There were no visible signs of damage to the tyre or any cracking before it happened and the moho had only just passed it's MOT .

And trust me ANY signs of cracking and the tyres would've been replaced ...
And after this ....I replaced ALL the tyres .

We hadn't long descended the Trawsfndd road down into Bala (lots of twisty bends ) that could've easily ended up with us on our side .
