Decent size garage

We use our 6m van much as a car when out and about, using the overhang it will fit in most normal car parking spaces. Because of this there's no need for scooters or bikes so we can get by fine without a garage. It's definitely only a two people van though.

We are looking at new or fairly new vans again again ,we keep seeing nice van layouts which suit us then find the garage is tiny or not got one, my question is do you have a good size garage ,would you miss it ,if you don’t have a garage what do you do with bulky items?
It’s an individual choice, we don’t have a garage so we carry accordingly and quite honestly we always have all we need, it may be different if we had bikes but my wife can’t ride so we don’t need a garage but as I said it’s an individual choice and not everyone wants the same things with them, I’ve seen at least two motorhomers with a large generator and a medium sized compressor for air tools but I prefer basic and uncomplicated holidays, as far as bulky things go they stay at home but that’s how we are.

Can’t undestand anyone not wanting a garage these days

Our first van had loads of storage under the lift up French bed, but access from outside was through a small door and awkward. We could still carry loads of stuff though.
Then we bought an RV with more storage than anybody would want. We got 15 packs of laminate flooring a a double bed ( taken apart) and mattress in one locker! We still had 5 more large lockers.
Anyway, that van was way too big to use how we wanted so we bought a smaller van with minimal storage and a bed we had to make up every night.
We kept this van for two years, wishing we had a garage and a fixed bed, so the latest van we have has a queen size island bed with garage below. The garage has access from both sides and the bed is low enough that we don’t have to climb steps to get in it and the headroom above the bed is huge. (Mrs S can stand on the bed without bending)
We don’t see the need to carry our expensive bikes so have a rack on the back that carries 2 cheap ones.

I'm designing another new build van (CAD only at the moment) - on a MWB Ducato size (3.12m usable load length on a 5.4m van)

Stealthy 2 berth, with L shape lounge (convertible to U), double bed (from lounge) loo/shower/wet room, kitchen and storage, fully winterised, dual fuel heating and onboard fresh water etc. All normal standard stuff

*BUT* due to doing things different to most van conversions, have got a garage included to include 2 mountain bikes AND 2 boards (snowboards or wakeboards) at the same time!

Yet, have virtually the same usable area for living as most van conversions without a garage.

It works on CAD at least :)

As long-termers a large garage is essential for us though a lot of unnecessaries can accumulate. A regular clear out is good. We use the large stacking crates as supplied by B&Q and then any unused ones can be collapsed to take up no space but are there ready. Only problem is that more than one crate may need to be lifted out to access the one required.

We would love a van with a garage. But not in our price range at the moment.looking at fixed bed with storage under instead. Will definitely be looking for one with garage when we both retire and the mortgage is paid off :)
