Do you get a habitation check done on your motorhome?

Just wondering how many of you get a habitation check done on your van?
And how often?
 
The habitation check is simply a check to see if things work, easily done by anyone capable of turning on the appliance. Checking gas appliances is little different you just need a can of gas leak detector spray which will show up leaking joints and then when you light appliances ensure there is a nice clean flame. Anyone cn use damp meter too, thats not difficult. I prefer to do my own as I know it will have been dome thoroughly. However if I was selling my van I would have it done professionally so I could produce a certificate to a prospective buyer.
 
No never had one everything been fine for six years. Hope I haven’t jinxed it now.?

No, never had one , I have a check round myself, the only thing I have noticed on my Talbot Executive Talisman is that the gas pipes under the van seam to made of steel not copper as I thought, so need to keep an eye on them
 
It's a must on new vans for period of warranty.
Also it gives a service record same as cab side.
Helps with sale value if selling.
 
not a hab check but a damp check to keep up the warranty for water ingress as its only 1 year old
 
bought my van when it was 17 years old and although all history paperwork supplied there was no evidence a habitation check had ever been done. glad i did though as there was a small gas leak in the copper pipes at the distribution manifold, and the rubber pipe connection to the gas cylinder showed signs of cracking. Wife can now sleep at night!
 
When we first got the van and Martin was still alive, we had a couple of annual checks done but then realised that it wasn't the sort of check we'd assumed. For some reason, we thought it was more like a 'service' on the habitation side, covering things like the fridge, boiler and gas fire. Yes I know, we were naive lambs to the slaughter! Once we got a handle on the true process, we stopped having them and bought a damp meter and gas leak spray. I'd have stopped anyway after Martin died because it simply costs too much. The van is 12 years old now and I know it well enough to recognise when I've got a problem, even if I can't fix it myself!
 
Only have it done to keep warranty right. As soon as warranty’s up I’ll bin it
 
Yes as still under warranty.
I suppose I should look at the list of what is covered with a view to doing it ourselves in a few years.
 
Yes as still under warranty and we have damp that has been sorted but is under 3 month review so will have to until the warranty runs out in 2022.
Interesting that the cost of fixing the damp is around 5 times what I've spent on hab checks.

I have the Habitation check done annually by the dealer I bought our Motorhome from it includes the all important Gas Test and Most importantly damp check, the warranty runs until 2015, I shudder when I hear people say it’s not worth having it done, this is the reason, I live in a Coastal Town on the East Coast and in the past there has been at least TWO fires owing to gas leaks so you make your own mind up about your personal safety. These are only my thoughts so please don’t shout at me.

I just wonder what the insurance companies stance is on this, if there was a fire/explosion would they say sorry but there has not been a gas test carried out. Just a thought.
