Yes -30C is cold, it is very cold, but I once skied in Northern Italy when it was -30C and all of my group were 100% ok, in fact at lunch-time we stripped off our top layers of clothing and we were all sunbathing in the hot mid day sun and yet the ambient temp. was still at -30C!

But as @oppy writes, it all depends if it is a dry or wet cold.

I have also skied in Scotland when the temp went down to -10C and we were all bloody well frozen, the reason being that up their in the Lecht region, almost all the winds are fu****g freeeezing !

Its funny how all the news reports are talking about the so called polar vortex in the USA the main area of the vortex and far colder temperatures are over Canada or so I am led to belive by the weather maps and barley a mention.

I did see on the news that they were advising you not to go out because there was a possibility that if you inhaled to much there was a chance that your lungs could explode!
