Does anyone have Hive in their home to control their central heating?

We are thinking abut getting this set up in our home so we can keep an eye on things when we are away and also make sure that we come home to a warm house after trips.

Does anyone have it in their place? If so what bits do I need to buy and who did your installation? By that I mean did you organise it through Hive or buy the kit and did it yourself or used a local plumber/sparkie?

Thanks

We don't have Hive or similar; to ensure we come home to a warm house, we set the thermostat to holiday settings for 2 days short of the return date and override the holiday default temperature of 5 degrees celsius by setting at 10 degrees. Neighbour checks the house and clears the mail from the hallway and can WhatsApp if any problems

We've had the hive for over five years and found it to be faultless
Great when coming home knock it on and house is toasty when coming back
Great when in bed knock up the heat so warm when you get up
Plus for us
Also work it remote from phones as I said great when been away for weeks and no cold house on return we had the gas board install it

I don't have Hive, I replaced my old Drayton control panel with a Wiser (Drayton/Schneider Electric) hub and smart thermostat. It was a very straightforward replacement that I performed myself - just a couple of screw to undo to remove the old unit from the wall plate and to tighten again when the smart hub is in place.
Smart devices are an excellent solution for ensuring that one can control the system when away from the house; if you return early for any reason, you can turn the system on remotely (e.g. cancel "Away" mode) rather than return to a cold house because a dumb system believes that you are still away.

I've taken the plunge and bought the Hive gear from Screwfix and have a chap coming around the week after next to fit it.

Thanks all

I bought a £15 China WiFi programmable WiFi stat around 6 yrs ago just to try the idea,it's linked to Alexa so can tell her to raise or lower temp and turn on or off as read and do it from a phone...never bothered programming it...our lives don't follow a routine...it has worked without fault and is now part of an entirely voice /phone controlled home...lights,fans,curtains,sockets etc

I recommend Worcester Bosch greenstar broiler with their smart thermostat and smart TRV's perfect control of each room, very economical and smart phone controlled.

Had a hive system fitted a year ago when I replaced all my radiators. Fitted by the local central heating firm but not difficult to do yourself if you are happy to work on the wiring. Very glad I fitted it. So easy to operate it remotely while you are away.

We have the Hive thermostat as well as Hive TRVs on all our radiators. Both of us have the Hive app on our phones so either of us can control the thermostat or individual valves from our mobile phone. You can also give other people access as well — for example, I have access to Hive on my phone for my sister's house for when we are dog sitting for them.

We have had Hive on our central heating for several years and wouldn’t be without it. It is particularly useful with underfloor heating because it takes a while to warm a home up from cold, we turn it onto its normal schedule several hours before we get home. A warm home and hot water when we get back.

The thermostat and hub are easy to set up but the boiler connection is probably best done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Had a Hive system for about 2 years, fitted it myself it is very straightforward even running multiple heating zones. This is a better option than smart TVs as the boiler is only on when a zone calls for heat.

I have a Hive setup with two thermostats for different areas of my house. I mainly control the system via the app. My one comment is that the thermostat batteries need replacement every 3-4 months. You get an app warning when they are low. This is a good reason to do all the controlling via the app rather than the thermostat. The graph presentation showing temperature and energy usage is helpful but I wouldn't bother with the Heating History Plus. At £40/yr it is overpriced.

We had ours installed yesterday. Very neat and tidy and it'll be a great help when we are away and want to come back to a warm house.

I don’t need to replace my Hive thermostat batteries very often, nearer 1-2 years and certainly not 3-4 months. Perfectly happy with the free app and don’t feel any need to pay £40 for more graphs.
