A little expensive for the cost of the materials, but not too expensive to go to the bother and hassle of fabricating your own either. £20 seems a reasonable price for that peace of mind and security it offers.

No idea if there are other products out there the same. (no doubt you can get one that looks the same from TEMU that is made out of a cereal box though).

As an aside, I don't know about other folk, but I am terrible at putting my keys down in the motorhome and then trying to fidn them. You could attach this lock to your motorhome keys and then not only will you always know where the security lock is to use, you will know where your keys are at night time

You could attach this lock to your motorhome keys and then not only will you always know where the security lock is to use, you will know where your keys are at night time

I like that David, very simple, but effective extra security measure, and at £20.00, much cheaper than a surf board.

Arrived back to house this afternoon, new barrel lock arrived too, will install tomorrow after checking out YouTube clips.

Hiya Ral, I posted here only as I thought a few would jump between forums, it is hard to keep track when repetitive threads are spread across both forums.

Yeh, we are good mate, sitting at Beas in France, awaiting replacement part so we can secure camper when we do hit the road again towards the tunnel.

Obviously difficult to say what the outcome would have been if the fkrs got in, I would hazard a guess, not a good outcome. It is what it is, happens.

Yeah, it does get one thinking is this all worth it? If they gain access, I’m sure they would not be telling us to sit down and then they pour us a glass of red wine .

Come October, I have a year left before having to renew my license and medical to continue with C class to drive the brick. So I’ll continue in a state of flux until that date arrives.

10 years ago we were park along the bank of the Midi Canal in a line with about 20 other van. I woke up around 3am because the wardrobe door was flapping in my face (van had a French bed). The van door was open. Someone had popped the cab door lock with a screwdriver and rummaged through the van. Gone through the wardrobe and also taken clothing that had been left on the seat and sunglasses from take. It was so hot I was sleeping naked on top of bed and no I had not been drinking although my husband had. Neither of us woke up and worse still neither did the two dogs. Luckily they got nothing from us as everything we carried was cheap and disposable, it was all left on the ground outside. Another plus point was that the lock had not been broken and apart from a little some cosmetic damage to edges of lock it worked fine still. It was so hot we had windows open but they still came in through door. I’m so glad we didn’t wake up, the thought of confrontation someone in that tight space doesn’t bare thinking about.
We also had a break in in our home town, had just returned from a trip and parked to walk dogs and supermarket visit. Gone 45mins. All these gadgets to stop someone opening locks Sind good but the reality is if they want to get in they will. They tried to jemmy the habitation lock, couldn’t so they jemmied the bottom and bent the door upwards in half. This was at the start of COVID and the result was that the Hymer ended up being written off

However I did have a slight smile at an unintentional spelling mistake in your account of the first intrusion in France.

WOW, your experience was certainly a fearful one, and as you state, confrontation does not bear thinking about. I reckon doors are the easier option, quieter to step in, than climb in through a window, you correct thought, if they want in, they will, unless disturbed.

I recall a post from way back where a MH door was bent back to gain access, if this was your MH, that was awful. Hopefully no more bad experiences for you.

I just finished reading Jenson Buttons autobiography, and he mentions a house they were living in, burglars had pumped something in through the AC and robbed the place, hard to believe any of these gassing claims.

It definitely happens, I know of a family who were targeted in their sleep and the house was ransacked, luckily nobody was hurt inc the 2 teenage daughters.

You can buy them on eBay. We use one, mainly to remind Phill the Cat to turn the alarm off before he opens the hab door and wakes any neighbours early in the morning.

No way they get through ours, the scooter and other stuff are stored there as we have never used hab doors on any van other than for putting shopping in, they are just a waste of space for us as we have two perfectly good cab doors.


Good little bit of simple kit, not worth £20 though.
