Driving in France and expat licence exchange

Since the beginning of the year, there has been no agreement negotiated by the U.K. government regarding expats living in France exchanging their driving licences for French ones.
Now however, it has been settled and this also affects U.K. residents driving in France.
The new agreement comes into force on Monday. If you live in France and drove on a licence issued before 1Jan 2021, you can carry on using the licence till it expires, under most circumstances.
This also means that U.K. residents driving in France on a U.K. licence don’t need an International Driving Permit.
The U.K. still need to negotiate licence exchange deals with Italy and Spain so you may still need an IDP if you visit there.
