This is normal when replying to classified ads placed by trade sellers, the enquiry gets sent through to a generic email address e.g. sales@tattyoldheaps.com so that anyone available can deal with it, as well as the actual eBay account owner.

You should try reading the User Agreement, specifically section 10 (see below).
You might also want to use last link at the bottom of the extract for User Privacy Notice and have a read of that too.

Except that we all know by now that Data Protection is an international joke nowadays?

Your data is already out there all over the digital universe (horses, stable doors etc.) and Trev, much as you might mock him, is not as unreasonably paranoid about some things as you p-taking bunch might think

10. Data protection and Privacy​
