Electrical problems with replacement Thule doorstep.

The Thule doorstep on our Autocruise Rhythm packed up a couple of years again and I've finally got around to changing it. The new Omnistep is quite different from that installed in 2014, but I got it installed physically. However, I cannot get it to play with the Sargent E440 control unit. All wires from the step and from the operating switch by the door go back to P5 on the EC400. According to the manual, the relevant fuse is F9. I've checked that and it's OK.

The power wires are a different colour on the new step. The contact microswitch wires are the same, but the power ones are Red and Black rather than Orange and Purple. I've tried wiring them both ways round but the step refuses to budge when I operate the button. The step motor itself is fine, I tested it all before installing.

I've lodged a ticket with Sargent, but I wondered if anybody in here has any advice?
