I know that feeling only too well. My dad died in 2013 at the start of his Dementia journey, we were thankful for that. My mum had it from 2007 and finally passed in 2016, we lost her every day. My mother in law had the beginnings of Dementia before she passed in 2023 Father in law had Dementia since about 2017 and died in a care home in 2024.

There were bright times, but nearer the end. My mum, who never recognised me for years, actually called me by name and spoke like the "old" times. She died about six weeks later. My father in law did not know who we were, but on the Friday before his death on the Tuesday, he said "Any holidays booked, Peter?" I will treasure both of those moments.

But with that family history, it doesn't bode well for the both of us.
