Hi,
Does anyone have the fittings that allow you to clip the awning legs to the body of your van rather than peg them to the ground?
I quite fancy getting them fitted for when we’re on tarmac aires in France but my wife worries i’ll scratch the van clipping the legs in and out.
How do you get on with them?
 
Same here, they work well and you just have to be a little careful when clipping them in and out. Once in make sure you slide the lock down.
 
Thanks, I have been thinking about such an item.
Mainly to be able to use the awning in light winds as they have a minor "tie down" effect.
This can be augmented by using our grey water portable tank and a tie down ratchet strap
And in some ways are also better than free standing if you just want to open the awning say about 1/3rd
 
Agree with all comments made. I have the metal ones as the silver colour was more appropriate with the grey colour of our van. If not used for some time I find that I have to free up with a peg mallet (and a small piece of wood) and then lubricate. One thing to watch out for though when using the brackets, the legs are at an angle and it’s very easy to walk into them/bang head!
 
As above - they're easy to use, unless you're completely and utterly cack-handed. ;)

Note - you can't roll the awning all the way out, and you can't roll it all the way 'in' (well, with the legs sticking down), so for 1/3 - 1/2 opening, they're great.
 
I can put mines out fully as the legs are adjustable and use tie down straps back to the vehicle (fiamma type) modified
Never any hassle unless strong winds rise
 
I didn't think that awnings were allowed on aires, perhaps I'm mistaken
 
Never used mine on a Aire as I never abuse the locations we go to .rutland water ,places like that I have it out if you pardon the terminology

Most camping car park aires allow both Awnings and outside furniture so it’s not a problem on their sites.
On quieter aires I may follow the lead of the French on the air and wind out the awning for some temprar shade. I would never take up two spaces by winding out the awning.
One of our favourite aires on the Ile D’oleron is municiple but allows full on awnings, furniture and outside cooking so no hard and fast rule.
 
Ah, I stand corrected. As I understood things Aire de camping car areas, well certainly the ones that we used, did not officially permit outside furniture including awnings, although we have seen the odd German and Dutch 'vans ignoring this and on the Vendee last year an official tried to clear a French family off, mind you they had the full monty outside including a bbq and a couple of sun loungers
