Fiat Camper Assist Phone Number

I've been trying to get some clarity from my mobile supplier, I have Plusnet & O2 phones. What I wanted to know was would I be charged & if so what rate to call 00800 3428 1111 from my mobile in the UK & from the EU. After getting through that it was 00 800 & not 0800 I am now no wiser. Plusnet even asked me to call the number so they could see & if I was charged they could wipe the charge. Plusnet however wouldn't connect & would just drop the call, seem to think I need premium calling or international calls turned off. O2 said I would be charged at international call rates from the UK but if I used abroad it would come from my minutes. I am allowed to call the +39 phone number free from both phones when we are in the EU.
Has anybody called the 00800 camper assist number from a mobile here or in the EU, if so have they been charged? The only thing I know for sure is I haven't got a clue & neither do Plusnet or O2.

Not much help I know but my talktalk landline will connect to 00800 etc. but my tesco mobile doesn't want to know. I read that the mobile should use +800 etc but that still does not work. https://www.area-codes.org.uk/00800-numbers.php

I have spent a pleasant half hour on the chat to Tesco mobile who appeared to be incapable of grasping the idea of International Free Number and kept asking what country I wanted to connect to and even to try 0800 instead of 00800. What is clear is that 00800 is not enabled .

I had to use it a few times last year and don’t recall any charge being made on my 3 network account.

There is an alternative number on my sticker in van +39 02 44412160 not sure if this helps with current roaming situation!!

Both O2 & Plusnet say that using the +39 number is free to call when in the EU, roam like home allows you to call the UK & other EU countries when in the EU. If you call this number from the UK though it will be charged at internation raters. The problem is if you need to call Fiat camper assist when in the UK then you will be charged unless you can call from a UK landline.
Strange that non of the mobile companies seem to be able to give a clear answer regarding the 00800, I remember speaking to a call centre once & they wouldn't accept that such a number existed.

According to this they aren't, spoke to somebody again at Plusnet she didn't know but tried her best to find out. I had previously been on online chat & that operator asked me to call the 00800 number then he would wipe any charges, tried but it won't ring just beeps & doesn't try to connect thinks its an invalid number. The girl I spoke to was I found out after chatting for a while that her & her husband are motorhome owners, eventually she suggested I try the +39 landline number which I did & this connected, she then said she had credited £5 to cover any charges, when I checked today its showing £4 credit there was the one chargeable call which lasted a few seconds & that cost £1. But if we were in Europe when I call the +39 number it should be free??

I've read loads of mobile forum posts about this & its clear as mud nobody knows if there is a charge or what it is, I've never managed to find it listed on any of the mobile websites. If you call from a landline though not only it doesn't charge you it doesn't even show in any billing statements.
Maybe a workaround would be to call somebody back in the UK get them to contact Fiat on a landline with the 00800 & give Fiat the details & get them to call you back.

I asked at The FIAT stand at the NEC and to be honest they didn't have a clue. I am still not sure what the role is of the 5 or 6 staff who were manning the stand.
Anyway after some minutes all they did was give me the +39 02 44412160 number.

Up to now I haven't had to call the Fiat camper assist line but I have had to call Swift & Truma numerous times, posted a thread on Wildcamping about having the Truma regulator pack up in the Pyrenees when the temp. was down to -10ºC. I called the Truma helpline in Germany think it was +39, & a few Spanish mobiles/landlines, but when I checked my Plusnet mobile account there was no charge. None of these was a 00800 number though but using my mobile minutes was ok.
