Finally booted Virgin out

The barstewards almost doubled our subscription, we've been with them for over ten years and had zero loyalty out of them, the packages were getting more into streaming from the likes of ITVX etc and quite often the programs were so pixelated they were unwatchable.

Last year a new outfit BRSK wired up our area and we've gone with them, basically just broadband and Freeview TV £29pm for 2 years, Virgin wanted more.

A breath of fresh air, Virgin were very unhelpful in unsubscribing, they are even charging us £28 early disconnection Grrrr, but Brsk are going to give us a credit on the account for that :) :) and because Liz's son is with them we both get £50 Amazon vouchers for referrals, so PM me if you go that way, and I'll refer you, I need the dosh :) :)

It's weird but I feel a sense of relief, like giving up cigs n booze.

How do they give you Freeview tv, it's free? Do you mean they have a box (like a sky type box) that adds Freeview?

Ok, a box for if your tv doesn't have Freeview built in then

I'm not following where your going Neil?

For any free TV you need a box regardless of who is supplying the internet Sky, Virgin etc our TV does have Freeview but it would need a aerial which we do not have, It also has Netflix and Prime which needs braodband.

Not going anywhere. I was wondering what it had as I said Freeview is free, yes you need an aerial or satellite of internet, in the van I just use internet connection for my Freeview, is it Freeview plus?

Does it include full subscription to Netflix and Prime Kev, if so I think that's a bargain.

There isn't anything on the BRSK link that gives you full info without starting an order and nothing at £29pm, cheapest I see starts at £34

No Netflix or Prime is not included but I already subscribe, having it as part of the box simplifies it Neil.

Info is sparse online.

The price of broadband-only from anywhere is OTT IMHO.

The really annoying thing is we have a lot of stuff already recorded so we'll have to binge watch as much as we can in the next 30 day, I go away for two weeks on the 8/9th of Feb and Liz is clueless on how to watch Virgin, only had it for yonks so why should she???

If you have a smart TV you can get catchup, You Tube amongst others with your Broadband. The Freeview TV programmes on it don't need Broadband, as you say, it is free to air if you have a TV aerial

No aerial and crap up here anyway.

I thought you could cast YouTube to the TV but I can't see how to do it.

Our TV is about 6 years old so a bit behind for a smart TV, and the remote is pants, works when it likes, replaced it several times, but the TV is fine.

You will need a Google Chromecast device to cast YT to TV or you could use an Amazon Firestick.

The Sharp tv in the van has an app built in, you just download the app to your phone/tablet etc. and away you go.

The TV in the house has native mirroring, I just go into my iPhone and click mirror and that's it done. Same on tablet and laptop but the one in the house is newer and more expensive than the one in the van.

If the tv doesn't have a mirroring app already on then its like Del says

I have both apps on my phone so i just find something and links it to the TV and the phone controls all but sound.

Why do you need a box for "any free TV"? In the past, I have received free (secondhand) TVs that were not in a box and just sat them on my media unit and plugged them in to the aerial. I have a TV with Freeview built in - requires an aerial but no box. I also have a smart TV, which also does not require any box for Freeview, free-to-air satellite channels or streaming from Internet.

We need broadband of course, but we dont have a aerial, not many do round here due to bad reception i have a Humax PVR, no use at all.

I admit to being a bit confused about what we can or can't do, but as said I have this Humax box.

And it has possible connectivity.

This one.

I need to contact BRSK to see if this will work off the internet, if so it'll be cheaper for us.

Unless I am even more thick than I assumed, and the net being just a box on the end of a wire I should (tomorrow, coz I'm too tired now) take the ethernet cable out of the Tivo box and put it into the Humax fire it up and see what happens, I bought it when we moved here 6 years ago to have a box to take with us and play recordings onto the TV we had but I gave up on it as the user interface is crap and then we just used our tablets which we prefer as we can watch individual programs, not sure if there has been a OTA update or not for the programme guide.

See what happens when you fire it up but I suspect a 6 year old box may be well out of date. Not so bad if it lets you update
