The surrounds to the bottom of the cab doors. Waiting now until later before removing masking tape.

Don't wait too long, it should come off a few minutes after it's tacky if possible

Have to ask Nida !
As you can see the area is small and partly hidden
Also was in good condition so sanding was minimal.
So no real comparison with a bonnet.
Have you considered wrapping ?
Maybe in a colour matching a decal.
Failing that maybe rapping.
We did not paint any of the door !

No, Wrapping might be ok and much faster, but doesn't it have to be a very smooth surface which would need a lot of prep too.

Indeed !
Painting by someone who knows is certainly longer lasting.
As you infer all in the preparation.

Trouble is I can't leave it parked with no bonnet, so it needs to be a big place to fit it in, no one seems to paint outside anymore all has to be in an oven.

I resprayed the bonnet of my previous Ducato at home and outside. I parked with the nose as far inside the garage as possible with the up and over door aching as a cover. Rubbed down all the flaky bits, then 2x primer and at least 3x or 4x topcoat, de-knibbing after every coat. All done from spray cans. Plenty of masking with newspaper, of course, and I picked a couple of calm days. The one thing I did wrong was to use grey primer. I should have used white primer which is much easier to cover with white topcoat.

I live in the countryside so loads of flies, also can't get the front anywhere near cover, but having said that it's worth buggering about for the sake of £20 in paint, trouble with cans is there is barely any paint in them it's all propellent and thinners, and a crap spray pattern, I might see if I can find my gravity gun and get something mixed up.

What paint would you peeps suggest to an amateur with one eye?

Nothing to be lost by trying.
Gloss white hammerite applied with a roller. Expecting many to disagree !
Lots of rubbing down
Maybe a primer.
Maybe rub down after and use an
Auto spray to finish.

Not going to be doing that, but the theory is sound on a less valuable vehicle or out of site but not the bonnet.

Back in 1985 having just got shot of wife two, or was it the other way round I needed a pace of life change, having just bumped into an old mate of mine and first wife, he'd been doing a bit of light haulage courier work, said it was a doddle and I thought I could so that, so splurged out on a really tatty Luton transit, it got the Dulux roller treatment, and I started doing removals, mainly DHSS, which was a bit dodgy as I was signing on at the time, briefly anyway I was billing the office next to where my money came from., and I've had two purple mini both rolled in silk vinyl.

Wish I still had the Tranny Andy and I (my partner at Triple S ) had so much fun in that old heap, the Corsair V4 engine eventually died on the M62, so one diesel front panel and 2.0 OHC Cortina engine later and we were back at it.
