Tonight will be the night, it was terrible around here last night Roxy (MY DOG) was like a brides nightie up and down (we thought the best thing to do was to ignore it...... or she would of thought we where backing her up) she was like a bag of nerves when we went out earlier this morning, stopping all the time and looking around
Roxy is just above 2 years and I expect it to get worse over the years, I really feel sorry for all the animals that are feared even with all the calming aids
I suspect nearly everybody as animals of some sort that are feared
I used to have a St Bernard and I took to all the farm bonfires, all she was interested in was what food they had, fireworks where just part of the day
I know that 5th November is Monday, but tonight is the nearest weekend to it and I dare say that a lot will have one tonight and Monday as well
 
Strangely, our last dog absolutely loved fireworks Lorraine. She was a Weimaraner and really scatty. Ruby is quite indifferent to them.

On Monday, all of our kids and grandkids are coming round to ours for bonfire night as they always do. Julie will cook jacket potatoes, hot dogs, mushy peas and homemade soup which the kids love and Ruby will be too interested in the food like your St Bernard!

This year, we are only having one rocket and sparklers for the kids. Any more than that will probably be too much for the donkeys and goats which our next door neighbours keep. There are also horses in the field across the road.

Not sure how it came about, but bonfire night has always been a big tradition and family event in our house and the kids and grandkids would be devastated if this was to stop.

It was something that was my yearly look forward to collecting wood in the six weeks holiday and the October week, guarding the wood carefully not to go inside a make shift shed in case any of the rival gangs set it a light
Going house to house with the guy fawkes to raise monies for fireworks
All the goodies our parents had made
Staying as late as our parents gave up on us shouting us in ...... having have to come for us ........ then it was all over for another year

Our dog has a nightmare time with fireworks! Abso terrified
We get calming tablets from the vet ,she shakes with fear ,goes off her food and does not want to go out for toilet .tonight I am not looking forward to it for her
 
Yes it's that time of year again,it just seems to get longer.We have a 10 year old dog who is terrified of fireworks and 8 month Alfie who seems to be quite indifferent.I took him round the block last night and there was quite a few loud fireworks going off,he just looked up and carried on so hopefully he will be ok with them.

Roxy shacks, keeps running around with tail under her legs like she is being punished and she won't go out, I don't think she goes off her food as she gets her second meal about 5.30pm which she eats

I had a dog ELLE just 5 months short of 18 years when she died
When she heard a fire work going off she was determined to get them even if they were at the over side of the field.... she was always very aggressive towards them, not scarred unless that was how she portrayed it
When she got deaf she looked for the lights in the sky .... and run around all nasty (BACK SNORTING) and worked up .... it was funny watching her

We have 2 cat's who both jump at the slightest noise if I sneeze they jump off the sofa so I'm hoping it's not too noisy tonight for them it's been quiet up till now where we live is mostly retired folk and was ok last year
 
Ours couldn't care less. There were some going off last night, sounded as though they were outside the window. He just laid in his usual spot on the back of the settee, opened his eyes occasionally, stretched his toes and went back to sleep.

Your description of the lead up to the night Lorraine, sounded just like mine, and yours Rob, about the family get together was the same as ours, at my grans. Baked potatoes cooked in the fire, pie and peas and homemade parkin.

The funny part was that we had the bonfire in grans back garden, pretty close to grandads shed which was covered down the sides in some sort of felt and then painted with creosote I think. Always several buckets of water......just in case. Thankfully we never needed them. Happy days.

I remember all the bonfires in the gardens directly next to sheds and garages ..... dousing down so they didn't catch light the night we had it was well worth all the effort we put in

Not me, I didn't like mushy peas.:D
 
I think I am quite lucky for all Taya gets a bad rap but she is fine with the fireworks though she does bark at the very loud ones, Poppy and Derby my other two dogs just ignore them I think it’s because I don’t react to them so they dont see them as a threat. A few years back when we had the Doberman he was terrified used to hide under anything he could get under and shake.

We ignore Roxy she as started looking at us while she is walking round and round as if to say can you not hear all that banging going on around us
 
Our dog in all fairness has been quite good tonight ,wonder if it’s cause she is on a trip ?
Got stuff from the vet and boy it’s certainly calmed her a lot.

Ours for all she’s young (13)weeks didn’t seem to bother her I have taken her outside and she’s heard a few loud bangs she just stop and looked up at me wondering what the noise was,so hopefully she not like our other dog we had she was absolutely terrified of them,but I must admit we haven’t heard that many!
