I can find no information about foot and mouth disease in France, but there was at least one case in Germany in December 2024/Jan 2025, involving water buffalo, plus one in Hungary.

Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Minister Andrew Muir has reiterated his call for livestock owners in Northern Ireland to remain vigilant following a second case of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Europe.

One can therefore imagine that the UK would indeed step up checks and prohibitions relating to imports from the European continent.

I don't think so; it would have to be a pretty sophisticated one, given the info on a wide variety of websites, including NFU and French agriculture-related sites, often with datelines preceding 01/04.

Not that weird, because it's in Germany and (IIRC) Hungary, but personal imports from EU are being restricted as a precautionary measure, probably due to difficulty in being sure of the source.
