Foot and Mouth

It is puzzling that tourists are banned from bringing meat and dairy products in, but Germany, where the FMD outbreak was reported is allowed to import food into the uk.
 
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks have recently been confirmed in Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia. Germany, having previously had an outbreak in January 2025, has since been declared FMD-free. Hungary and Slovakia continue to experience active outbreaks. There are currently no cases of FMD in the UK.
 
The Tunnel operator is sending out the following email in advance of travel ......

Following a rising number of cases of Foot and Mouth across Europe, the UK has introduced temporary restrictions on certain meat and animal products from the EU to prevent the spread of the disease.

From 12th April 2025, travellers can no longer bring the following meat and animal products from the EU into Great Britain for personal use:

  • pork
  • beef
  • lamb and mutton
  • goat meat
  • milk and dairy, including cheeses

This includes bringing items such as meat / cheese sandwiches, cured meats or raw meats.

Please ensure you do not carry any of these products on your upcoming trip to Folkestone.

So we rolled up as usual at the Tunnel, earlier train sir, no problem ........ through French border control ... fine, through UK border control, just pull over here sir ........ into the van searched the underbed wardrobes, bathroom, floor lockers, drop down bed, all external lockers and garage .......... did he look in the fridge .............nah!! 🙄

You must have one off, those dodgy character face Dave to have UK border control check all books and crannies, and possible strip search! 😂

Our last return had a quick immigrant check, including hab area and garage. They didn't open our fridge either, strange as it is a tall one you could easily fit a skinny person in.😼
 
Email arrived from Le Shuttle, re: foot and mouth. Not once while viewing French TV, were there any news reports of F&M. Sounds a load of bollox to me 🤷‍♂️

Weird that the UK side didn't even ask, but it would be pointless, so many hiding places for stuff.
