If the reason for not going is financial rather than medical you need to do more reasearch before giving up.

Have you checked that GHIC wouldn't cover the bills.

My wife was evacuated from the Bilbao ferry and spent a couple of weeks in hospital over there.
No medical bills and my hotel bills and travel home covered by Insurance.

We have travel insurance that covers pre existing conditions. It costs a bit more, but you are covered. Mine is worldwide (more expensive than Europe because of the size of American bills).
I pay around ยฃ1,700, but it is that or stay in UK.

I would sooner take advice from my consultant been under her for 5 years if she said don,t go then I don't go, The guy in the next bed to me did't do as he was told now he has only one leg

After 7 nights in hospital with blood clots in my leg been told not to travel abroad for a while, Wife and my self been looking forward to it wot a bummer, lets hope I can get my money back from DFDS ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
DFDS will issue you with a Credit Note for a future sailing within 12 months. They issued one to us in November 2021 when we had to cancel after ECU failed, and our Mar 2022 sailing was cheaper, so we got a cabin to use the remaining credit (lost 38p or 44p overall, so not too bad)

Take the clots seriously. Mine moved from ankle to lungs, 'round the outside of the lungs, if they'd been at the centre, I'd have been more worried, and you might've been dead' was how the Consultant expressed it ...

I think your response is overly aggressive!

You stated
if it clogs up again over there the cost would be like my home gone
Which implied that the trip was cancelled for financial reasons !

I suggest you re read the first sentence in my post.
I was only trying to help by offering ways you could travel without putting your house at risk. !

'Medical advice not to travel' would take any treatment beyond insurance cover. Insurance is based on guarding against an event happening, i.e. the unexpected. 'You have a clot do not travel' medical advice is not guarding against the unexpected, it's almost the exact opposite!

Not sure how this relates to my post. The first sentence of which clearly states that it refers to cancellation on financial grounds.

If the reason for not going is financial rather than medical .....

'Have you checked that GHIC won't cover ...'

Steve
So if he is only not going because he is worried about the cost of medical treatment and that cost is covered by GHIC then his reason for not going is no longer valid.

If he has medical advise not to go that is a totally different as the cancellation is not on financial grounds.

Crossed purposes here, I think. The GHIC is to cover the cost of the unexpected event and it comes with a warning to arrange your own policy for private hospitals etc. In my case, I had a heart attack in Spain, without warning. The OP has had a recent health problem and has received medical advice NOT to travel. Why would anyone expect the NHS to pick up the tab for going against Doctor's Orders?

Ok you, that sounds like a โ€˜legistโ€™ comment to me and surely is not permitted in current time ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Just think of the weight loss if you had a leg off, cheaper buying (one) shoe (usually on a rack outside the shop for free), old ladies give you their seat on the bus and you get a blue badge. Winner winner chicken dinner ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
