French trip

As we’ve not met I should really say Hi.
Hi,
Pacemakers ? Brilliant bit of kit. My second is on its way out, after nine years of (mis) use.

Travel Insurance? Companies had the strangest idea. For some odd reason they thought I wanted to buy the insurance company, not just get a premium. And as also I have several other ticker problems, travel insurance is either expensive or unobtainable. I therefore depend on the GHIC . I have used that a couple of times, needing to visit a GP. What that would be like if I needed extensive hospital treatment, I’ve no idea. I prefer not to think about it,lol.

The delay re replacement, as far as I can tell, is because I was on a list for an upgrade, to a double lead model. Apparently I no longer qualify. Clearly no worthy of the expense. So a bog standard one is going in. He will fit it one day.

How long do they last? I reckon, used around the 60bpm, you could expect 10 years. Both of mine have lasted 9-10 years.
Yes they are that good. If you can convince the surgeon to take the job on, in the first place.

As for travelling? I never consider it a problem. Going out of Europe? ( Out of the GHIC area) I would reconsider maybe.
I will probably be called irresponsible, but it’s my life, my decision.
Have van. Will travel.

Enjoy your travels. Quit worrying. After all. With that comedy team, Trump and Putin, we all could be dead next week.

Another thing maybe worth considering? If you didn’t have a pacemaker fitted, you may not around to consider travelling 😬
Always look on the bright side of life.
hi I loved your reply, a very philosophical outlook. Good to hear they last 10 years as once I have my ablation I’ll be fully battery operated. Re insurance I also looked at the National Federation of Occupational Pensioners which if you join provide travel insurance without need for disclosing any medical procedures. Not sure how it works but as long as you join before a certain age they cover you after that for any age.

Anyway I’ll take your advice there’s no point sitting around, need to get out and make new memories.

Hmmm, October? Anywhere South of Fort William should do. Possibly anywhere below Thurso :)
Hi, Neil.
After all the years we’ve known each other. I reckon I may have worked out what is the difference between us.

While I try my hardest to extend the summer by leaving for Spain and Portugal in February. Southern France, and again Spain, in September and October .
Your plan, or so it seems to me, is to extend the winter.
Mmm. Each to their own 😘

Ha ha Del, you could be right, the biggest struggle I just had with the tent up in Scotland was the flaming sun. My nose was that burnt it actually bled at one point before I could find anywhere that had caps with a peak lol

That wasn't just me though, Shane was flat out sunbathing and got a tan at the same time I was squeezed into the bot of shade next to the car, he also swam in Luce Bay a few times.

You know the delay on your pacemaker could be related to the countrywide delays on cardiac car,saw in BHF newsletter today that the waiting list is highest it's been in England now at over 490,000 waiting. Rising waiting in Wales and Scotland as well it said but no numbers. I expect none who watches main stream media must wonder where all the money is going lol

I haven't been to France for a good while now but used to go over on the outfit 3 or 4 times a year, my memory, (fallible as you know) tells me end of August into September you could get some big rainstorms up in the mountains, big enough to wash cars out the underground car parking in Marseilles. I have pictures somewhere in a box of bikes submerged to the handlebars and tents abandoned as the didn't have diving gear to put them away. Luckily the rain stopped as the lake got to about 6 inches from us. Oh yes, the race was cancelled as well but we didn't get a refund :)

You will be ok, you know you just like worrying :)

In fact Dell, I was that desperate to shade my nose it was almost a See You Jimmy hat I got lol Good job my hair has lost the (koff, koff) strawberry blonde.

Hi all,

Derek, thank you for the information in your post about a pacemaker.

I am at the beginning of this heart problem. I had a heart monitor fitted several weeks ago and the outcome
was my heart beats were all over the place. The words of the doctor were it sounds like a bag of worms, and i am not into fishing.

Still waiting for another heart monitor, then he suggested stopping the heart and re-setting with the resuscitation
paddles to correct the normal rhythm . Hope the power stays on during the process .

So reading the post, if it does not work a pacemaker is the next step. So thank you for the information
and the sad information about the travel insurance , at 78 years it does not get any better.

We have to keep traveling and have a smile on your face.

thank you Ted.
