Announcement in today’s Press & Journal re tourism funding from Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund includes 2 items for motorhome facilities. I particularly like the “cludgie” project for Lochinver - wonder what that £50k is going towards!31FA684A-A106-490C-8D15-5B31DEE47B36.jpeg

Be good to see the outcome of it

Yes but how long will we have to wait. Things don’t always seem to move very fast up here. To be fair the Glenfinnan Viaduct car park is going ahead right now as so many locals complained about the problems with tourists and Fairy Pools on Skye is also in the headlines a lot.

could do with a very large carpark at the fairy pools it's been crowded all along the road everytime we go there ( only once a year too far for a day trip)

Just had time to sit down and read the whole article properly. One of the details given is that a new large car park will be constructed at Storr on Skye on forestry land with a new toilet block which will have “disposal facilities for campervans” - read that how you will!!

Why don’t they use school car parks for the 6 7 weeks at the height of the busy season for motorhomes the schools are closed to pupils and staff during this time July August this would generate much needed cash towards school funds everyone a winner just like the Henley thing scool must benefit someway

Its amazing how much it costs to set up anything for motorhomers. A friend looked into setting up an aire type facility in Biggar but the red tape and costs have made him say no. The water board wanted £11,000 just to do a survey of his land - not do anything or install anything just a survey. He has also been quoted over £100,000 to do anything. It looks like the piece of land he has will just stay as waste ground for now.

£50,000 was a quote I received under a FOI request for the cost of providing one of the motorhome stopover in Northern Ireland. Nothing fancy just a Bourne and hard standing and kerbs. A Bourne terminal was £5,000 plus connection to services and earth works.

Its not the bourne terminal that's the expense - its the water board charges to do anything. My friend has water and drainage pipes going under his land but the water board are just being completely over the top on their charges. Oh well another idea down the pan.

When I kept my boat in Scotland a lot of the towns put mooring boys for visitors out and serviced them every year, most places didn't charge you, same as hotels, pubs and restaurants supplied mooring boys free of charge in the hope you would spend some tourists pounds in the various businesses and towns, perhaps the Scottish government is now seeing the benefits of having motorhome visitors as well. Let's hope so.
