Does your current hob have a lid/cover?
Just wondering as for example I have a 4 ring cooker (3 gas rings + electric plate) with a cover. I usually use an electric induction hob and will tend to just put it on the lid of the cooker. No reworking of kitchen top and still got the extra flexibility of the gas if I wanted multiple pans on the go.
If no lid, could make a worktop piece to position over the top?

(Now the gas grill and the gas oven are pretty useless and never use them, so I have thoght seriously abut removing the entire cooker unit and making a new cupboard and putting in a new worktop but I would very likely fit a gas hob still (or maybe a gas + induction one?))

You might wonder why I am advocating the gas as always seem a big electrics guy, but significant cooking is a big draw of power.

Yeah it has the glass cover David but tbh there's not a lot of workspace and as you know we are pretty frugal with power and the vitoman power bank is brilliant we find
Found its recharge under a hour compared to my jackory, our table top incuction hob hs a variable power level and it is great for not being to expensive
Work surface is the thing

Can you perhaps add an extra work top area which folds away when not in use?

Liz always wants more worktop too Gordon, but I'm with David on this, leaving the lid down achieves the same ends and you do have the option, I'd be more likely to get rid of the sink than the hob being 100% WC

Yup.
I am not understanding why effectively removing a cooker lid and then in its place extending a worktop to the exact same space gives you more room?

Ref sink ... With my motorhome, it came with both a worktop inset cover for the sink AND a cutting board that insets into the sink. Never used the cutting board as TBH it was 14 years old and had been used a lot (just me being weird about food and used items, I guess?) and the worktop inset for sure lives in place and is handy for putting things on.
Something which a lot of motorhomes seem to have (I think one specific brand does this but can't recall which) is to have a sink cover that when you remove can be slotted into a holder above the regular worktop to provide an extra shelf. That always seemed a great idea and likely one that could be added to an existing van?

Yup.

David the hob being moved away would create more space

Gordon, I think it’s clear, I hate lpg. I’ve tried over the last couple of years to get gas free.
My recent winter trip has confirmed, no sun = no solar = no charge = no heating, cooking, lighting. Bit of a problem, I think you might agree.
So…… as I’ve already got smelly, awkward stuff in the van. I’ll keep it.

But… When I win the lottery, my new 4x4 will be gas free, either living in Portugal, or will have a back up generator.

Yup.

Yes ours has a badly cut sink cover, it looks awful but not been to a shop that sells them, I should just measure it and buy a ebay one, it does have a home, between the oven and the sofa, not very hygienic on the floor but we have a chopping board so it's just a cover if and when we need one.

Maybe if/when we have funds and get another van then we may go all-electric, but it's a big job if not doing a self-build.

Yup.

More *apparent and usable* space might be a better description, David. The glass hob covers seem to be regarded as 'out of bounds', perhaps because of the cost of replacement (IIRC, a Member had the glass top shatter 2-3 years ago and the quote was some £300+, but a local glass cutting service made a non-heat resistant replacement for £20-£30). Just my thoughts ... The 'clean run' across the kitchen with a one piece worktop would feel roomier and more useful
