GAS REFILL,

A recent fire destroyed a Motorhome and a big part of the garage at Morrisons Weymouth , it appeared to be an American van, if it proves to be [the fire ] due to LPG filling it could be the death knoll of Morrisons LPG sales the garage is closed for several weeks now apparently . WOW that is going to be some Insurance claim Methinks ??
Morrisons at Weymouth doesn’t sell lpg. It was a petrol powered US Motorhome filling with petrol.

Wow. Coming back from Dartmoor yesterday noticed ...99 in the services normally the dearest

Yes I know that Garage but as you say it is on the eastern side of Southampton and we live in the west , often over that way in the Car but not in the van, , there is a Motorhome dealer about 500 yards from the Garage you posted if any one is interested in a look sometime, Aldi, Lidl and the Range too I was born in Sholing or Spike Island as it is known. there is a Morrisons near where we live but I have never been there or know if they have LPG , not seen it on the app. Our nearest garage in Swaythling sold LPG at one time but not any more and they were always the cheapest around here .
Hi Trigger,
We live in West End, had to refill 3 bottles week before last.
Refilled them at Ower too.
Did go to Bursledon, but they never had any, but never checked price.
Shame Swaythling stopped, as it was ideal, as often pass there during week with work.
Ps, grew up down the hill in Thornhill.
Goodness knows how much a Calor Genuine Refill is these days.

I meant to add, last year touring around France I managed to find 6 LPG stations before I found one that was working, so many of them were ‘ne marche pas’

We've been mainly in northern and eastern France and have found plentiful supplies of LPG at Leclerc Supermarkets. We're beginning the move across towards the Loire where Super U is the main supermarket and the LPG supplies are much less common, with Total Energies a total waste of time because of their blanket ban on refilling motorhomes. Mylpg.eu producing far fewer stations, and a 'temporarily unavailable' (for months!) amongst Shell and some Auchan sites

I topped my gas bottles up today at OWER SERVICE STATION Near ROMSEY £1.07p Per Litre WOW cost me £22.81 most I have ever paid for refillable gas .
21.32 litres sign of the times ?
One of the reasons why I moved to electric cooking, induction top and air fryer. 👍

1 litre of propane contains 7.08 kWh of energy so at £1.07/litre the price per kWh is about 15p. Not a figure that is going to stop me using lpg.
but remember if comparing cost per kWh of LPG against cost per kWh of Electricity, you also have to include energy efficiency. Using an Induction Hob is around 3 times more efficient in terms of energy transferred into the actual cooking process and not wasted by heating the atmosphere or parts of the cooker.

True and if you are using solar the energy is free. I was really just making the point that £1.07 per litre is perhaps not as outrageous as it might first appear.

I paid this yesterday , but the chap had no change, so only charged a tenner !!!

Filled up with LPG at a couple of Total stations in France in April/May this year, so the ban is not implemented everywhere.

I have very little doubt it was an engine fire and likely caused by a perished fuel hose going by where all the destruction is - at the front where the big V10 Petrol Engine is located on a 25+ year old RV
More likely with a petrol engined vehicle, and has not replaced fuel hoses with ethanol-proof ones.

I like the idea of making electricity while driving and not looking for it like gas 🤣

I carry a small calor bottle as a backup. I carry it empty as payload is tight for me. If I am low on LPG and heading into an area bereft of LPG stations ( Say Hebrides...) I exchange my mt bottle for a full one. I have a gasit pigtail which connects the calor bottle to the fill point of my LPG underslung tank. This only works when my tank is mt, its not for topping up the tank.
Its not great. As it has to be disconnected and reconnected each time we move but is better than having no gas.
I also carry a wee camping stove from my hiking days as a last resort but have never used it so far.
Be prepared ;)
K ;)

If the lpg is more than 25% used (i.e. 1st 11kg bottle is 50% used), and the diesel is below 75% mark, both get filled at the earliest chance (as does the fridge because we'll inevitably be at a supermarket at the time) ... Empty cassette, 3 days water, full fridge, gas and diesel = contentment 👍

My LPG tank is ostensibly 70 litres, which is 28KG. That's enough for about a month in Winter, quite a bit longer in Summer.
I calculate whether it will last until the next sensible top-up. On the other hand, I tend to top up whenever I'm passing LPG at a reasonable price.
Much the same goes for diesel, though a tank of diesel doesn't last a month when I'm touring about so sometimes I can't buy it at bargain price.
